Vice President, Investments – Brookfield Special Investments (BSI)
Business Group
The Brookfield Private Equity Group manages $160 billion of AUM and has a 25-year track record of consistently generating strong investment performance. Within the Private Equity Group, Brookfield established Brookfield Special Investments (“BSI”) as a non-control strategy to provide scaled, flexible and strategic capital to high-quality companies and assets. BSI’s all-cycle strategy targets investments globally across the capital structure and across sector/asset classes identified as thematic through the Brookfield ecosystem. BSI’s capability to be an active investor and strategic partner to companies following an investment is a key differentiator relative to other capital solution businesses. BSI represents a continuation of Brookfield’s history as a value-added investor leveraging its owner-operator heritage, deep expertise in real assets (and adjacent sectors), and reputation for completing large-scale complex transactions.
Job Summary
The Vice President plays a central leadership role within the Brookfield Special Investments (“BSI”) team. The Vice President is responsible for driving deal execution, investment thesis development, diligence management, and portfolio value creation. Working closely with the fund’s senior leadership, the successful candidate will be responsible for driving underwriting quality, operational improvement, and long-term value creation. In addition, the Vice President will assist in developing business networks to find new investment targets.
The Vice President is a seasoned investment professional with strong judgment and a demonstrated ability to lead complex private transactions from origination through execution. A track record in executing hybrid capital solution transactions is a plus for this role.
Key Responsibilities
Deal Execution
Manage full diligence workstreams and lead all aspects of deal execution (commercial, financial, operational, technology, HR, insurance, regulatory, legal, etc.).
Lead the financial due diligence process, including overseeing modeling, valuation, and analysis prepared by junior colleagues.
Develop and evaluate creative, bespoke transaction structures that address BSI’s investment objectives and counterparties’ needs, while optimizing risk-adjusted returns.
Develop and execute the value creation plan during diligence, working with operational teams to identify opportunities and assess risks to achieving targeted results.
Partner with legal, tax, and other internal teams to execute transactions, ensuring deal structuring and documentation are aligned with the business case.
Prepare and present investment cases, presentation materials, bid letters, and other transaction-related documentation.
Business Development
Develop and refine sector theses across the BSI strategy.
Maintain and expand relationships with bankers, advisors, founders, and executives.
Evaluate new deal opportunities, lead early-stage screening, and present to investment committee.
Monitor market trends, regulatory developments, and competitive landscapes that impact underwriting.
Portfolio Management
Work with management teams on strategic business initiatives at portfolio companies.
Monitor ongoing financial and operational performance of investments.
Support quarterly valuations and internal reporting.
Team Leadership
Manage and mentor Senior Associates, Associates and Analysts on sourcing, diligence, modeling, and presentation development.
Establish the quality bar for analysis, models, and deliverables.
Foster a collaborative, performance-oriented culture aligned with the firm’s values.
Desired Experience
6-8+ years of relevant professional experience, including at least 5 years of direct investing experience.
Undergraduate degree with a strong academic record is required; an MBA, CFA designation or other relevant advanced qualification is considered an asset.
Prior experience at a non-control, capital-solutions, large-scale buyout, or upper-middle-market buyout fund.
A proven track record of leading junior investment professionals throughout the end-to-end execution of a transaction.
Superior financial modeling and due diligence capabilities.
Strong negotiation and relationship management skills with internal and external stakeholders.
Organized and detail-oriented; ability to work in situations with changing priorities and multiple simultaneous workstreams.
Excellent verbal and written communication; experience presenting analysis to senior leaders and ability to lead and drive initiatives.
High degree of integrity, judgment, and analytical rigor.
Bias for action, ownership mentality, and resilience under pressure.
Collaborative, low-ego and team-oriented approach, with a demonstrated willingness to contribute across all aspects of the investment process.
Salary Range: $375,000 - $425,000
Our compensation structure is comprised of a base salary and a short-term incentive program (cash bonus). Cash compensation tends to vary based on geography to account for local market conditions and is set to be market competitive. Compensation decisions are based on a number of factors including relative experience, overall years of experience, industry experience, education and designations.
