The Marketing Cloud Platform Department (MCPD) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Project Manager to lead initiatives supporting our core ecosystem platforms. Our mission is to drive Rakuten’s marketing product strategy, execute product development, and ensure successful implementation. We empower Rakuten’s internal marketing teams by creating engaging, respectful, and cost-efficient marketing platforms that prioritise our customers. Leveraging the Rakuten Ecosystem, we offer comprehensive marketing solutions, including campaign management, multichannel communication, and personalisation. As a team of over 150 experts across Japan, India, and Singapore, we pride ourselves on being a technology-driven organisation that shares knowledge within the Rakuten Tech community.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Project Manager to drive the successful delivery of critical projects across MCPD. In this role, the incumbent will collaborate extensively with leadership, management teams, and technical stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met, budgets are managed effectively, and timelines are adhered to. The Senior Project Manager will be responsible for the execution and monitoring of diverse projects, ensuring their alignment with broader product strategy and Organisational goals. Beyond direct project management, this role will play a significant part in enhancing our PMO capabilities by contributing to the standardisation of processes, the refinement of project metrics, and providing data-driven insights that inform product portfolio decisions and strategic financial oversight.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Lead the end-to-end planning, execution, and closure of complex, high-impact projects within MCPD.
  • Define clear project scope, objectives, deliverables, and success criteria in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Develop, manage, and track comprehensive project plans, schedules, budgets, and resource allocation.
  • Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate project risks, issues, and dependencies, ensuring timely resolution.
  • Drive project teams to meet milestones on time, within budget, and to required quality standards.
  • Ensure strict adherence to established project governance frameworks, methodologies, and best practices throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Monitor project progress using key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide timely, transparent status updates to all relevant stakeholders.
  • Prepare and present clear, data-driven insights and visualisations on project health, progress, and potential impediments.
  • Collaborate effectively with the Program Management Office (PMO) and other contributing teams to centralise project data and support the creation of consolidated management reports.
  • Actively seek opportunities to optimise existing project workflows and processes, contributing to continuous improvement in project delivery quality, cost-efficiency, and overall effectiveness.
  • Leverage departmental KPIs and project performance data to identify areas for improvement within projects and support the product team in developing and executing enhancement plans.
  • Ensure all project activities are strategically aligned with MCPD's overall product strategy and broader organisational goals.
  • Provide informed input into product portfolio planning and strategic budget discussions, leveraging project-level insights.

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in Software Project Management, with a proven track record of successfully leading and delivering complex software development or projects on time, within budget, and to required quality standards.
  • Demonstrated expertise in project management methodologies (e.g., Agile Scrum, Waterfall, Hybrid) with the ability to adapt approaches to project needs, and proficiency with industry-standard PM tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence).
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, adept at influencing stakeholders, building consensus, motivating cross-functional teams, and effectively managing expectations at all organisational levels.
  • Strong analytical acumen, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities, with a proven capacity to decompose complex issues, proactively manage risks, uncertainties, and dependencies, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Proven ability to ensure project alignment with overall product strategy, contribute to the continuous improvement of PMO processes and governance, and leverage KPIs for transparent project health reporting.
