Description

Air Traffic Management Research Institute (ATMRI) is a research institute at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, supported by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS). The key objective of ATMRI is to support research and innovation in air traffic management. ATMRI focuses on developing practical and data-driven solutions for complex aviation systems, in close collaboration with industry and international partners.

For more details, please view https://www.ntu.edu.sg/atmri.

We are looking for a Research Fellow to conduct research on systems integration and prototyping in air traffic management (ATM), with a focus on the design, development, and integration of advanced ATM systems and decision-support tools. The role will involve integrating research algorithms, software components, data interfaces, and simulation platforms into functional prototypes, as well as supporting system testing, verification, and validation in realistic ATM environments, contributing to the advancement of research and innovation at Nanyang Technological University.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research on systems integration, systems engineering, and prototyping approaches to support air traffic management studies and applications.
  • Design, develop, and integrate software components, research algorithms, data interfaces, and decision-support tools into functional ATM system prototypes.
  • Develop and maintain system architectures, interfaces, and integration frameworks to support interoperability between different ATM research components and simulation platforms.
  • Work collaboratively with researchers and engineers to translate research concepts and algorithms into integrated prototype solutions for current and future ATM concepts.
  • Conduct system integration, testing, verification, and validation to assess the functionality, performance, reliability, and interoperability of developed prototypes in realistic ATM scenarios.
  • Support the integration of operational and simulated data sources, external systems, and communication interfaces required for ATM research and experimentation.
  • Prepare technical reports, research papers, system documentation, and project deliverables, and participate in project meetings and reviews.
  • Publish research findings in relevant journals and conferences in areas such as air traffic management, systems engineering, and intelligent transportation systems.
  • Contribute to research proposals, technical documentation, prototype demonstrations, and other project-related activities as required.

Job Requirements:

  • PhD qualification in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Air Traffic Management, Transport, or other related fields.
  • At least one (1) year of relevant research experience in systems integration, software development, systems engineering, prototyping, or related technical research roles, ideally within aviation, transport, or other complex operational domains.
  • Familiarity with systems integration and prototyping, including system architecture, software and data interfaces, interoperability, and integration of multiple software or research components into functional systems.
  • Good written and oral communication skills, with the ability to prepare technical reports, system documentation, and academic publications.
  • Proficiency in job-specific technical skills, including programming and software development (e.g. Python, C++, Java, or similar languages), API and data interface development, and integration of software components and simulation platforms.
  • Experience with system testing, verification and validation, software version control, and collaborative software development practices would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of air traffic management systems, aviation operations, simulation environments, or related decision-support systems would be advantageous.
  • Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate research concepts and algorithms into integrated prototype solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively with multidisciplinary research and engineering teams, develop solutions under defined timelines, and demonstrate good organisational and time management skills.

We regret to inform that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
