Summary:
The Patient Care Associate (PCA) Extern actively participates in a structured on-site training program designed to develop the knowledge, skills and experience required for entry-level PCA practice. Through a combination of classroom instruction, simulated-based learning, and hands-on clinical training participants are prepared to successfully transition into the Patient Care Associate role. The program incorporates adult learning principles and provides interdisciplinary support, dedicated preceptorship, competency-based assessments, and role-specific policies and procedures.Responsibilities:
Observes and monitors patient condition, reporting abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental, or emotional status to the nursing team.Assists patients with personal care and activities of daily living, including bathing, grooming, and feeding, under the direction of an assigned preceptor.Supports unit operations by maintaining clean, organized, and well-stocked patient areas, transporting patients as needed, and performing other assigned duties under preceptor supervision.Assists with basic patient care activities under the guidance of an assigned preceptor and delegated RN supervision, including monitoring vital signs, performing EKGs and phlebotomy, obtaining blood glucose measurements, and documenting intake and output.Competencies:
