Description
Role Overview
The Global Planner represents Supply Chain Planning within the Supply Strategy Team and is accountable for planning, controlling, and scheduling activities for assigned active ingredients.
This role translates demand, supply capability, sourcing strategy, and inventory requirements into feasible, time-phased supply plans. The Global Planner balances production and inventory with demand to support customer service, business strategy, inventory, cost, and capacity-utilization objectives.
The role develops and maintains rolling 24-month master plans at the family and sub-family level, including production, sourcing, inventory, and raw-material requirements. It serves as the critical link between global supply strategy and execution across regional supply organizations, manufacturing sites, suppliers, and functional partners.
Key Responsibilities
Supply and Inventory Planning
- Translate demand requirements, supply capability, sourcing strategy, and inventory targets into a time-phased aggregate supply and inventory plan across the S&OP horizon.
- Develop and maintain feasible rolling 24-month production and supply plans for assigned active ingredients.
- Define sourcing requirements for active ingredients, raw materials, and intermediates based on the approved production plan and sourcing strategy.
- Balance customer service, inventory, capacity utilization, supply risk, and total business cost when developing supply plans.
- Ensure inventory is appropriately positioned across the supply network while minimizing total inventory and distribution costs.
- Recommend adjustments to target inventory, inventory turns, and safety-stock levels to achieve required service levels within applicable policies.
- Establish and communicate regional active-ingredient allocations aligned with business priorities and available supply.
- Maintain supplier schedules across the 24-month planning horizon.
Capacity and Scenario Planning
- Perform resource-requirements planning for family and sub-family aggregate plans.
- Identify short-, mid-, and long-term capacity constraints, supply gaps, and inventory risks.
- Develop corrective actions and optimization recommendations to address identified constraints.
- Prepare and evaluate planning scenarios and trade-offs to support S&OP, risk mitigation, and business-continuity decisions.
- Regularly review planning assumptions and parameters, including yield, cycle time, uptime, lead times, and planned shutdowns, to maintain plan integrity.
- Work with the Global Supply Leader to translate long-term supply and inventory strategies for assigned active ingredients into actionable plans.
S&OP and Cross-Functional Alignment
- Participate actively in the S&OP process, providing clear supply-planning insights, risks, scenarios, and recommendations.
- Develop and present the rolling mid-term plan within the S&OP process.
- Facilitate alignment across Sales, Marketing, Demand Management, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Procurement, and Sourcing to balance supply and demand.
- Collaborate with Demand Management to ensure lead times and resource-capacity requirements are reflected in demand review and approval processes.
- Resolve planning issues collaboratively and escalate material risks or unresolved constraints through the appropriate governance channels.
- Communicate production plans and their business impact clearly to global and regional stakeholders.
- Act as the planning conduit between global and regional supply organizations, translating supply strategy into precise tactical execution plans.
Planning Execution and Systems
- Fulfill the Global Planning OBP role and the Production Planning role for Material Types I and III at PPM-planned locations.
- Manage production forecasting and communication, including purchase orders and ship-to-plan activities.
- Track master-planning performance and lead root-cause analysis to improve plan accuracy, capacity utilization, and inventory performance.
- Maintain accurate planning data and parameters across applicable systems.
- Identify business requirements that improve the value delivered by planning systems and tools.
- Support planning capability development, process discipline, and adherence to standard ways of working.
- Coach other Global Planners and regional or asset planners where appropriate.
Planning Governance and Continuous Improvement
- Analyze global demand, supply, and inventory performance on an ongoing basis.
- Work with regional planners to resolve planning issues and improve overall plan quality.
- Support periodic planning audits using standard criteria to assess process adherence, data quality, and planning discipline.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve planning processes, policies, tools, and performance.
Decision-Making Authority
The Global Planner balances and reconciles demand, supply, capacity, and inventory across the mid-term horizon. The role makes planning recommendations that support customer requirements and business objectives while operating within established policies, supply strategies, and governance processes.
Material risks, significant constraints, and unresolved cross-functional issues are escalated through the appropriate governance channels.
