Production ManagerReq ID:
10158589Job Description:
About the Role:
The Production Manager is a skilled subject matter expert responsible for supervising local third‑party drama productions and supporting the Head of Production in overseeing day‑to‑day operations across multiple projects. You will lead complex production initiatives, guide partners through Disney standards, and serve as a key problem‑solver and mentor within the production management team, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and within locked budgets.
You’ll join a team grounded in our Disney values — acting with Integrity, welcoming everyone through Inclusion, embracing boundless Creativity, working together through Collaboration and caring deeply for our Community. These values shape how we work and how we support one another every day.
This role will be based in our Madrid office, 4 days a week, with either a Monday or Friday working from home.
What You Will Do
In this role, you will oversee ongoing local productions, acting as the primary operational contact for independent production companies while aligning work with Disney’s production guidelines and financial controls. You will analyze and negotiate third‑party budgets and schedules, monitor production health and safety, and collaborate closely with internal departments to move projects from planning through delivery. This role matters because it safeguards creative intent, financial discipline, and compliance, requiring an experienced, proactive team player who can lead, mentor, and solve complex problems with accountability and strong collaboration skills.
- Act as an advisor to the Head of Production, providing expert insight to enable effective oversight of day‑to‑day running of local drama productions.
- Manage and control locked production budgets, including cost reports and tracking of green‑light budgets and key financial elements.
- Review and analyze third‑party budgets, schedules, timings, and all aspects of production planning, identifying risks and recommending viable solutions.
- Monitor industry standard practices, labor and bargaining agreements, and ensure productions adhere to current health and safety requirements, including post‑Covid protocols and work with minors and talent.
- Lead negotiations with independent production companies, benchmarking fair pricing and industry rates and negotiating production solutions that balance creative and financial objectives.
- Serve as the day‑to‑day point of contact for production companies on assigned projects, anticipating problems and advising Executive Producers, Line Producers, and Production Management on production, budgetary, and legal issues.
- Work closely with Disney OPD Production Supervisors, Financial Controllers, and other internal departments (Finance, Press, Marketing, Creative, Transmission, On Air, Digital and Social Media, Procurement, Compliance, Security) to keep projects moving forward and stakeholders informed.
- Attend set and location at key stages of production to monitor execution, provide updates, and deliver clear reports back to the Disney team.
- Hold self and partners accountable to commitments, planning and prioritizing work in line with departmental goals while mentoring team members and fostering collaborative, high‑performing ways of working.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Extensive professional experience in external drama production, including line producing, production coordination, and production controller responsibilities, with a strong track record as a subject matter expert and problem‑solver.
- Proven ability to manage and control production budgets, interpret cost reports, and track green‑light budgets and financial elements across multiple projects.
- Strong skills in reviewing and analyzing third‑party budgets and schedules, assessing viability, and negotiating fair pricing and industry‑standard rates with independent production companies.
- Deep understanding of industry standards, labor and bargaining agreements, and production health and safety practices, including post‑Covid protocols and regulations related to working with minors and talent.
- Ability to anticipate and address complex production, budgetary, and legal issues, explaining difficult concepts and influencing stakeholders to adopt different points of view.
- Highly developed collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to build strong partnerships across Finance, Press, Marketing, Creative, Transmission, On Air, Digital and Social Media, Procurement, Compliance, and Security.
- Demonstrated capability to lead, mentor, and guide others without full supervisory responsibility, inspiring individual and business success through clear expectations, continuous feedback, and supportive coaching.
- Proactive, hands‑on approach, willing to “roll up your sleeves” and support the wider Production Management team as needed, acting as a reliable team player and lead.
