Description
Database USA is a creator and provider of databases of US businesses, consumers, emails, and life events. Our databases are used for marketing, research, and integration into our customers' technology platforms and value-added products.
Our data is our product, and we are seeking a Data Product Analyst to help make it better. In this role you will take ownership of the quality, coverage, and growth of our databases: inspecting the data closely, finding where it falls short, and planning the improvements and additions that make it more valuable to our customers. If you have previous experience in the data industry, we would love to talk with you.
Please note that this is not a reporting or dashboard role. We are looking for someone who works on the data itself, its accuracy, completeness, and structure, rather than someone who builds reports or visualizations from it.
Duties include the following:
- Analyze and inspect data files to verify, characterize, and measure the accuracy, completeness, and coverage of our databases.
- Identify gaps, errors, and opportunities in our data, such as missing fields, outdated records, coverage holes, or new attributes our customers would value.
- Plan and prioritize improvements and additions to our databases, and maintain a roadmap for carrying them out.
- Evaluate new data sources and recommend which to add, how to integrate them, and what they will contribute to our products.
- Define data standards, field definitions, and quality benchmarks, and track our progress against them over time.
- Work with IT specialists to carry out data projects from specification through testing and release.
- Gather input from customers and internal teams to understand how our data is used and where it can be made better.
- Make decisions based on gathered, factual information, and present clear recommendations to management.
Qualifications include the following:
- Familiarity with the business and/or consumer data industry.
- Experience improving, maintaining, or expanding a database or data product, not only reporting on one.
- Understanding of postal addressing rules.
- In-depth knowledge of Excel and MySQL.
- Understanding of practical applications of statistics to evaluate data quality, coverage, and accuracy.
- Ability to pay attention to detail, identify trends, and determine data validity.
- Ability to think critically and logically, and to turn findings into a practical plan of action.
- Experience with data compilation, sourcing, matching, deduplication, or data hygiene processes (such as NCOA or CASS) is a plus.
- 2 year college degree (4 year preferred).
The willingness and ability to learn quickly is critical. Candidates must have an attention to detail. This position may involve interfacing with customers, so the candidate must be able to represent the company with a professional demeanor.
When you apply, please include a brief example of a dataset you improved or expanded: what was wrong or missing, what you changed, and what the result was.
