Position Summary

We are seeking a Senior Network Engineer to design, implement, and support highly available network infrastructure across Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and on-premises data centers.

The primary focus of this role is Azure networking for production applications and services. The successful candidate must have hands-on experience designing, supporting, and troubleshooting network infrastructure that directly supports production applications, customer-facing services, or other business-critical workloads.

The role requires strong experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and modern cloud-network engineering practices. The ideal candidate is also comfortable leading technical initiatives, challenging established approaches when appropriate, working independently, and driving network architecture improvements across complex hybrid environments.

This position will work closely with Cloud Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Security, and application teams to improve network reliability, scalability, automation, security, and observability.

Role and Responsibilities

·       Design, implement, and support enterprise-scale Azure and AWS network infrastructure for production applications and services.

·       Maintain secure and reliable connectivity between Azure, AWS, data centers, external partners, SaaS platforms, and customer-facing services. Troubleshoot routing and connectivity across diverse network platforms.

·       Create, modify, review, and support reusable network Infrastructure as Code and deployment workflows.

·       Lead network-related projects and architecture initiatives from planning through implementation.

·       Challenge existing designs and operating practices when there is a clear opportunity to improve reliability, scalability, security, automation, or operational efficiency.

·       Work independently on complex technical initiatives with limited direct oversight.

·       Maintain accurate network diagrams, architecture documentation, operational procedures, and configuration standards.

·       Participate in network incident response, root-cause analysis, problem management, and corrective-action planning.

·       Support certificate-related network dependencies, including TLS connectivity, certificate renewal coordination, and troubleshooting.

Required Qualifications

Azure Networking

·       Strong hands-on experience designing, implementing, and supporting Microsoft Azure networking.

·       Experience with Azure technologies such as VNets, routing, NSGs, Private Endpoints, Private DNS, VPNs, ExpressRoute, load balancing, and hybrid connectivity.

·       Ability to independently troubleshoot complex Azure network and application connectivity issues.

Infrastructure as Code

·       Hands-on experience using Infrastructure as Code to provision, modify, and manage cloud infrastructure.

·       Understanding of version-controlled infrastructure workflows, code review, repeatability, and configuration management.

·       Ability to work effectively in environments where network infrastructure is increasingly managed through automation rather than manual configuration.

Production Application Networking

·       Significant experience supporting networks that directly serve production applications, customer-facing services, or business-critical systems.

·       Strong understanding of application traffic flows, load balancing, firewalls, DNS, routing, latency, availability, and service dependencies.

·       Experience participating in troubleshooting and incident response.

Preferred Qualifications

Terraform

·       Hands-on experience with Terraform for cloud networking and infrastructure provisioning.

·       Experience creating or modifying reusable Terraform modules.

·       Familiarity with Git-based CI/CD and infrastructure deployment workflows.

·       Ability to use AI effectively while maintaining appropriate engineering review and validation.

Network Design & Architecture

·       Experience working with a network architect to determine the best network solution.

·       Experience interpreting complex network architectures and documenting them accurately.

·       Ability to make recommendations to application engineers based on reliability, security, scalability, performance, and operational complexity.

Project Leadership

·       Experience leading technically complex network or infrastructure initiatives.

·       Willingness to challenge legacy processes, designs, and assumptions when better technical solutions exist, rather than simply maintaining the status quo.

·       Ability to drive technical change, build consensus, and move projects toward implementation.

Project Independence

·       Demonstrated ability to independently own engineering initiatives from requirements through implementation.

·       Ability to identify risks, dependencies, and next steps without requiring continuous management direction.

·       Strong judgment regarding when to escalate technical or operational concerns.

Next-Generation Firewall Experience

·       Experience with technologies such as Fortinet FortiGate, Palo Alto Networks, or comparable platforms.

·       Strong understanding of firewall policy design, segmentation, NAT, VPNs, traffic inspection, logging, and troubleshooting.

Physical Routing & Switching

·       Experience with enterprise routers and switches in production environments.

·       Strong understanding of BGP, OSPF, VLANs, trunks, Layer 2/Layer 3 design, route redistribution, and high-availability network design.

·       Experience integrating physical data-center networks with cloud environments.

Cloudflare

·       Experience with Cloudflare services such as DNS, WAF, load balancing, and related edge-networking capabilities.

·       Understanding of how Cloudflare integrates with cloud and on-premises application architectures.

Datadog

·       Experience with Datadog or a similar observability platform, particularly Network Performance Monitoring, infrastructure monitoring, dashboards, alerting, log correlation, or APM-related troubleshooting.

·       Ability to use observability data to distinguish network issues from application or infrastructure problems.

Network Incident Management & Analysis

·       Experience participating in production network incident response.

·       Ability to perform root-cause analysis and distinguish symptoms from underlying causes.

·       Experience developing corrective actions designed to prevent recurrence.

Certificate Management

·       Experience supporting TLS/SSL certificates and certificate-dependent infrastructure.

·       Familiarity with certificate lifecycle management, renewals, trust chains, certificate authorities, and troubleshooting certificate-related connectivity issues.

·       Experience with automated certificate management or enterprise PKI is a plus.
