Description
- Coordinates the organization, staffing and operational activities for City recreation programs such as: Teen Center, classes, day camps, special events, sports, senior programs, field trips, and city and park facility usage, permits and rentals;
- Organizes and coordinates special events and field trips, including transportation for program participants;
- Develops goals and objectives for recreational programs;
- May lead in the training and supervision of subordinate recreation staff, volunteers, and independent contractors;
- Provides input on the performance of subordinate recreation staff;
- Prepares promotional materials such as social media, newsletters, calendars, fliers, and brochures;
- Coordinates cost recovery activities, fund raising opportunities and donation solicitation;
- Communicates necessary information verbally to parents, volunteers, participants and the public related to special events and recreation programs;
- Provides input on the budget and other administrative matters;
- Develops reports concerning new or ongoing programs and program effectiveness; and
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Any combination of education and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this classification. An example would be:
EDUCATION: Equivalent to two years of full-time college level course work in recreation, public administration, education or closely related field; and
EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of recent full-time equivalent (FTE) experience coordinating and supervising special events and recreation programs, subordinate recreation staff, volunteers and independent contractors.
Up to two years of additional related full-time equivalent work experience may be substituted for the college-level coursework.
*Recent experience is defined as relevant experience obtained within the last 10 years.*2 years of full-time college level course work is defined as 48 semester units or 72 quarter units.

SELECTION INTERVIEW: Tentatively scheduled for Monday, August 24, 2026.
The City may change these testing and interview dates at its discretion due to departmental staffing and operational needs.
Incumbents in this classification may be required to possess or obtain a Class C California driver's license at time of appointment. May be required to obtain a Class B California driver's license after appointment. If incumbent does drive a City or personal vehicle, a safe driving record is required and must be maintained during the period of employment.
Incumbents in this classification may be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
Depending on assignment, this position may be subject to a post-offer physical.
Individuals assigned to work with students and/or children must provide proof of a tuberculosis (TB) test by date of hire.
