Job Description:

Summary

The Dean – Health Careers provides strategic leadership, planning, direction, and management for all Health Careers programs at Illinois Central College (ICC). The Dean advances the educational quality, accreditation compliance, and operational effectiveness of the department while fostering innovation and excellence among faculty and staff.

The Health Careers Department includes transfer and applied programs such as Nursing, Emergency Medical Services (EMT/Paramedic), Dental Hygiene, Radiography, Surgical Technology, Respiratory Therapy, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Medical Assistant, Health Information Technology, and other health-related disciplines that prepare students for licensure, certification, and direct entry into the health-care workforce.

Compensation for the Dean- Health Careers starts at $81,244.80 and is commensurate with experience.

  • College Transcripts- Unofficial transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. Official transcripts will be required upon hire.

  • Leadership Philosophy and Sense of Belonging Statement- A written statement describing the applicant’s leadership philosophy, including how they foster a culture of inclusion, belonging, and collaboration among faculty, staff, and students. The statement should address experience leading diverse teams and supporting equitable student and employee success.

  • Professional References- Contact information for three to five professional references, including current or former supervisors, who can speak to the applicant’s leadership, management, and interpersonal skills. References should include name, title, organization, phone number, and email address.

Essential Functions

  • Working with department faculty and staff, administer departmental compliance with the faculty collective bargaining agreement and college policies.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to achieve the college’s strategic priorities, including student success, workforce alignment, and community partnerships.
  • Uphold the college’s mission and core values through leadership of departmental programs, ensuring quality instruction and student-centered outcomes.
  • Manage departmental matters related to students, including admission standards, clinical placement coordination, student concerns, grade appeals, and licensure eligibility requirements.
  • Oversee program scheduling and staffing for all Health Careers disciplines and clinical experiences.
  • Analyze departmental enrollment, retention, and completion data to develop strategic growth and student success initiatives.
  • Provide oversight and leadership for simulation labs, clinical facilities, and instructional technology that support hands-on health-care education.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets, including grant funds and specialized program accounts.
  • Collaborate with faculty to evaluate, create, and recommend curriculum that aligns with accreditation standards, industry needs, and evolving health-care practices.
  • Maintain relationships with health-care employers, advisory boards, and clinical partners to support student placement, program improvement, and workforce responsiveness.
  • Oversee and support all programmatic accreditations (e.g., ACEN, CODA, JRCERT, CoARC, CAAHEP, etc.) to ensure continuous compliance and successful renewal.
  • Promote and represent ICC Health Careers programs within regional and state workforce networks, health systems, and educational partnerships.
  • Ensure adherence to standards of the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), Illinois Community College Board (ICCB), and Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE).
  • Perform related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a health-related discipline or higher education administration.
  • Three years of teaching experience in a healthcare or health-science discipline.
  • Knowledge of principles of effective teaching, program assessment, and clinical education.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritization skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and professional working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and external partners.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Community college teaching and administrative experience.
  • Experience with specialized accreditation processes and clinical partnership development.
  • Leadership experience in health-care education or a clinical environment.
