Staff Software Engineer - LV Battery

Work Classification:

Hybrid: The successful candidate is expected to report to Milford, MI three times per week, at minimum, or as dictated by the business.

The Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Staff Software Engineer to lead the development of innovative battery management software solutions for low-voltage (LV) systems. This role demands a strong technical leader who can drive strategic initiatives, foster cross-functional collaboration, and champion best practices in software engineering within a dynamic automotive environment.

What You'll Do:

• Lead the architectural design and development of complex software for LV battery sensing systems, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives in software development processes, tooling, and methodologies, incorporating best practices such as SAFe.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth.
• Collaborate extensively with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers, quality assurance, and product management, to define requirements and deliver integrated solutions.
• Act as a subject matter expert in LV battery software, contributing to strategic technical roadmaps and decision-making.
• Identify and resolve complex technical problems through effective group problem-solving techniques and innovative software coding solutions.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of enterprise data architecture strategies relevant to battery system data.
• Ensure adherence to industry standards, safety regulations, and internal quality processes throughout the software development lifecycle.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

• Bachelor's in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 7+ years of progressive experience in software development, with a significant focus on embedded systems or automotive applications.
• Proven expertise in software coding, with strong proficiency in C or other relevant programming languages.
• Demonstrated experience in leading technical projects and initiatives, exhibiting strong strategic leadership.
• Prior experience with developing and leading battery management sensing software and expertise with different sensing AFEs.
• Extensive knowledge of Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) principles and practices.
• Strong understanding of enterprise data architecture concepts and their application in complex systems.
• Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to facilitate effective group problem-solving sessions.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to lead and collaborate effectively across diverse teams (Cross-Functional Leadership).
• A strong commitment to continuous learning and staying abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Skills):

• Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in software development, with a significant focus on embedded systems or automotive applications.
• Prior low voltage battery or Tier One experience launching programs.
• Ability to use AI tools to accelerate product development.

Company Vehicle:

Upon successful completion of a motor vehicle report review, you will be eligible to participate in a company vehicle evaluation program, though which you will be assigned a General Motors vehicle to drive and evaluate. Note: program participants are required to purchase/lease a qualifying GM vehicle every four years unless one of a limited number of exceptions applies. 

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the selected candidate is expected to report to a specific location at least 3 times a week {or other frequency dictated by their manager}. Relocation benefits are available for candidates who qualify under company policy.
