Controller

Position Summary:
The Controller is responsible for overseeing the company’s day-to-day accounting and financial operations, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, and supporting efficient business operations. This role will manage core accounting functions including general ledger, month-end and year-end close, cash management, payroll, reconciliations, budgeting, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting professional with strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and experience managing accounting operations in a growing organization. This position will work closely with leadership and internal teams to provide accurate financial information, improve processes, and support the company’s continued growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations and maintain the integrity and accuracy of the general ledger.
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including account reconciliations, journal entries, and financial statement preparation.
- Prepare and provide timely financial reports and analysis to company leadership.
- Review financial activity, identify variances or discrepancies, and investigate issues as needed.
- Maintain accurate accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash, and balance sheet records.
- Ensure appropriate accounting policies and procedures are followed consistently.
Cash Management & Treasury
- Monitor cash flow and maintain accurate cash forecasts.
- Oversee banking relationships, bank reconciliations, and treasury activities.
- Monitor cash balances and support effective management of company funds.
- Ensure appropriate controls are in place around cash and banking activities.
Budgeting & Financial Planning
- Support annual budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Provide financial analysis and reporting to help leadership understand business performance.
- Identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improved financial performance.
- Assist leadership with financial planning and decision-making.
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Develop, implement, and maintain effective accounting processes and internal controls.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and financial controls.
- Ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal financial reporting requirements.
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, banking partners, and other financial professionals as needed.
- Maintain organized financial records and ensure the company remains audit-ready.
Administrative Support
- Work with HR and management on payroll-related matters and employee changes.
- Support benefits and other accounting or HR administrative processes as needed.
- Ensure appropriate records and documentation are maintained.
Process Improvement
- Establish clear processes and expectations to promote accuracy and accountability.
- Identify opportunities to streamline accounting workflows and improve efficiency.
- Promote a collaborative and service-oriented approach within the accounting function.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred.
- 4+ years of progressive accounting experience, with prior Controller or Accounting Manager experience.
- Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, and month-end close.
- Experience with cash management, treasury, payroll, and budgeting/forecasting.
- Experience developing and maintaining internal controls and accounting processes.
- Experience with QuickBooks or similar accounting systems.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple responsibilities, and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with leadership and cross-functional teams.
