Description
This internship is with the Parks and Recreation Department located at Kelly Recreation Complex, 404 Imperial Blvd. in Lakeland, FL. Interns will work a maximum of 30 hours per week.
- Assist in daily operations within Kelly Recreation Complex
- Assist with the execution of recreational sports leagues—including softball, flag football and kickball
- Setting up and tearing down recreation activities
- Reports hazardous conditions and accidents and administers first aid when needed.
- Instructs individuals and groups in recreational activities; maintains discipline in recreational areas.
- Participates in staff meetings; assists in planning special events; provides information about programs to parents and other citizens.
- Ability to work flexible schedule, including nights and weekends
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform related work as required
Enrollment in or recent graduation from a degree seeking program in an accredited college or university.
Required: A Resumé is required for consideration for this position.
- Basic understanding of sports (softball/baseball, flag football, kickball, basketball)
- Ability to perform basic data entry
- Basic Computer Skills
- Must be willing to spend time outside
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective relationships with supervisor, co- workers, other City employees and the general public
- Skill in communicating effectively both verbally and in writing, and to request clarification when needed
- Valid driver’s license is required
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS:
- Requires sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time, exerting up to 50 pounds of force on a recurring basis, routine keyboard operations
- The job risks exposure to no significant environmental hazards
- The job requires normal visual acuity, and field of vision, hearing and speaking
