Key Responsibilities
Underwriting & Portfolio Management
- Risk Assessment: Assess complex commercial property submissions, analysing structural and natural catastrophe exposures (e.g., windstorm, wildfire, earthquake) using CAT models and exposure data
- Slip Production: Generate and review broker slips and ensure contract certainty is in compliance with market standards and assist the rest of the property team when required.
- Pricing & Structuring: Develop sophisticated pricing strategies, terms, and conditions while executing manuscript endorsements and tailored coverage forms.
- Exposure Management: Collaborate with the Exposure Management team to model aggregate accumulations, stress test against capital models, and monitor global loss limits.
- Peer Review: Participate in other team members risk assessment, pricing, and policy terms, ensuring accuracy and consistent methodology is applied throughout the team. Recommend ideas to streamline the workflow process for continuous improvement.
- Key Performance Indicators: Ensure any audit requirements and recommendations are promptly implemented and maintained.
Broker & Client Relations
- Market Presence: Maintain a visible presence to meet brokers, negotiate placements, and build strong, ongoing relationships with intermediary panels.
- Business Production: Proactively develop new business opportunities and execute marketing plans.
Compliance & Administration
- Governance: Ensure strict adherence to group regulatory stipulations and IGI guidelines.
- Endorsements & Clauses: Apply and stay up to date with market-standard model clauses, endorsements, and exclusions (e.g., LMA, NMA, IUA and LSW wordings).
- Claims Collaboration: Partner with the Claims team in assessing complex claims.
- Technical & Personal Skills: Ensure an appropriate level of personal specialist knowledge and competence is maintained through a defined programme of training and continuing professional development as determined by prevailing regulatory requirements and internal standards.
- Technical Systems: Maintain a high proficiency in modern electronic placement platforms such as PPL and Whitespace.
- Analytical Skills: Apply strong numeracy and data-handling skills with the ability to interpret risk modelling and geographic/political data.
Continuing Professional Development
- Ensure an appropriate level of personal specialist knowledge and competence is maintained through a defined programme of training and continuing professional development as determined by prevailing regulatory requirements and internal standards

- Support IGI’s obligations to conduct business soundly, prudently and with due regard to policyholder interests

Key Attributes & Professional Qualifications
- A minimum of 10 years underwriting or related experience in the insurance industry within Property lines of business
- A keen interest in own professional development. CII qualified (or equivalent recognised insurance qualification) is preferred, as well as regularly attending training events to continue their own professional development
- General computer literacy (Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc)
- Strong team player who is also able to work on own initiative within authority limits
- Excellent attention to detail in order to maintain accuracy of data and file records
- Customer focused, providing excellent customer service skills both internally to the team, as well as externally, with brokers
- The candidate needs to be a self-starter, who can manage high volumes during busy periods, has the ability to take and execute instructions and meet deadlines. Must work well under pressure and be able to prioritise tasks, especially during busy periods.
