(Senior) Underwriter

CapitalBox is looking for an experienced Underwriter or Senior Underwriter to join our credit team.

In this role, you will independently assess SME loan applications, analyse financial and business information, and make well-supported credit decisions in line with our credit policy and risk appetite.

The position may be offered at either Underwriter or Senior Underwriter level, depending on your experience, credit authority, and ability to manage complex lending cases.
 

What you will do

• Evaluate and independently underwrite SME loan applications in line with the company’s credit policy, delegated authority, and risk appetite.

• Perform comprehensive financial analysis of SME applicants, including financial statements, cash flow, debt capacity, and business performance.

• Assess creditworthiness by evaluating financial performance, repayment capacity, credit history, industry dynamics, and macroeconomic factors.

• Prepare clear and well-supported credit recommendations, including risk assessments, proposed loan structures, and credit terms.

• Structure lending solutions in collaboration with Sales and other stakeholders to balance customer needs with prudent risk management.

• Monitor portfolio performance, identify emerging credit risks and early warning indicators, and recommend appropriate mitigation actions.

• Exercise sound credit judgement on complex lending cases and escalate exceptions where appropriate.

• Contribute to the continuous improvement of underwriting policies, credit processes, and decision-making frameworks.

What we are looking for:

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in credit risk management, underwriting, or a similar credit analysis role.

• Previous experience in the fintech industry is highly valued.

• Strong understanding of SME lending, including assessment of financial statements, cash flow, and credit risk.

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound credit decisions based on complex information.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to clearly explain credit decisions and collaborate effectively with colleagues across different functions.

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities while maintaining high-quality decision-making.

• Proactive, detail-oriented, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.

• Professional proficiency in English is required.

• Professional proficiency in at least one of the following languages is required: Finnish, Swedish, Danish, Dutch, or Lithuanian.

Salary:

The salary will depend on the level of the position and the candidate’s experience:

• Underwriter: €4,200–€4,700 gross per month

• Senior Underwriter: €4,800–€5,500 gross per month

The final title and salary will be determined based on relevant experience, the complexity of previously handled cases, and the level of independent credit authority.
