About the Role
Total Wine & More is seeking a Manager, Operations Compliance- California, to join our Loss Prevention & Safety team. This role will be based in California. In this role, you will lead compliance efforts across Washington retail locations while supporting assigned California stores, ensuring adherence to meal and rest break requirements, employee timekeeping standards, workplace safety regulations, and applicable state and federal labor laws. You will proactively monitor compliance, conduct audits, identify trends, investigate potential violations, and partner with store leadership to develop and implement corrective action plans when needed. Working closely with Store Operations, Human Resources, and Payroll, you will help drive consistency, accountability, and operational excellence across the business. As a trusted member of the Loss Prevention & Safety team, you will operate with a high degree of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality while supporting a culture of compliance and workplace safety. This role will report to the Regional Director, Loss Prevention & Safety.
You will
- Serve as the company's subject matter expert on California wage and hour laws, meal and rest periods, timekeeping requirements, and workplace safety policies and requirements in California.
- Build and maintain enterprise compliance programs, including the Injury and Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP), Workplace Violence Prevention Plan (WVPP), and related governance documentation to ensure ongoing regulatory compliance and operational readiness.
- Drive compliance monitoring, audits, investigations, and root cause analyses related to wage and hour practices, workplace safety, and operational processes, developing innovative solutions that mitigate organizational risk.
- Champion the development of compliance reporting, executive dashboards, risk assessments, and quarterly business reviews that provide leadership with actionable insights into compliance trends, performance, and emerging risks.
- Align cross-functional partners across Store Operations, Human Resources, Payroll, and field leadership to identify, investigate and correct any compliance concerns.
- Lead the design, development, and delivery of enterprise compliance training programs that strengthen leadership capability, reinforce accountability, and promote consistent execution of company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Manage high-impact compliance initiatives and strategic projects for the Loss Prevention & Safety organization, coordinating cross-functional resources and stakeholder priorities to ensure successful execution and measurable business outcomes.
You will come with
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5-7 years of experience in retail operations, labor compliance, workforce management, HR compliance, payroll compliance, or related field.
- Strong knowledge of California meal period, rest break, timekeeping, and wage-and-hour regulations.
- Experience auditing large employee populations and identifying compliance trends.
- Experience developing reporting, dashboards, and operational metrics.
- Strong analytical and investigative skills.
- Ability to influence leaders across multiple levels of the organization.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and workforce management systems.
- Experience with Workday, Reflexis or similar timekeeping platforms preferred.
- Approved location of Residence is Los Angeles, CA.
