The Discipline of Theatre and Performance Studies at the University of Sydney is recognised for excellence in research, teaching and creative practice. We deliver innovative undergraduate, honours and postgraduate research programs, maintain strong connections with the arts sector, and are internationally recognised for expertise in areas including dramaturgy, performance making, theatre and dance history, and creative practice research. We play a significant role in advancing scholarship, artistic practice and industry engagement in Australia and beyond.

To address significant growth in student numbers in the Discipline, we invite applications for a full-time, six month fixed-term Lecturer (Education Focused) position. The successful candidate will contribute approximately 70% to teaching and related activities, 20% to research, and 10% to governance, leadership and engagement.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

• coordinate units of study, including curriculum delivery, assessment design, moderation, marking and feedback, and contribute to curriculum development and continuous improvement

• supervise Honours students and provide academic leadership through high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Theatre and Performance Studies

• provide academic guidance, mentoring and pastoral support to foster an inclusive and engaging learning environment

• support students in developing critical, analytical, creative and research skills, while contributing to disciplinary activities and collaboration with colleagues and industry partners to enhance learning and engagement

  About you

• a PhD in Theatre and Performance Studies or a closely related discipline, with expertise in theatre, performance studies, dramaturgy, theatre and dance history, performance-making, creative practice research, or related fields

• demonstrated experience teaching and supervising students in higher education, including the ability to support student learning, research development and academic success

• experience coordinating units of study and contributing to curriculum design, assessment and continuous improvement initiatives

• a commitment to inclusive, student-centred teaching practices and the provision of effective academic and pastoral support

• strong communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, colleagues and external partners

• the ability to foster students' critical, analytical, creative and research capabilities, and contribute positively to the broader activities of the discipline
