Who are we?
Howden is a global insurance group with employee ownership at its heart. Together, we have pushed the boundaries of insurance. We are united by a shared passion and no-limits mindset, and our strength lies in our ability to collaborate as a powerful international team comprised of 24,000 employees spanning over 56 countries.
People join Howden for many different reasons, but they stay for the same one: our culture. It’s what sets us apart, and the reason our employees have been turning down headhunters for years. Whatever your priorities – work / life balance, career progression, sustainability, volunteering – you’ll find like-minded people driving change at Howden.
The role
As an Associate Director within the Market Management (T20) team, you will play a key role in delivering Howden’s strategic insurer engagement agenda. Sitting within Howden Markets, you will lead relationships with selected strategic carrier partners, provide data-driven insight and consultancy, and help shape initiatives that strengthen trading partnerships, support growth and deliver value across Insurance, Reinsurance and Underwriting.
This is a full-time, permanent role based in Central London, with an expected onsite presence of 4-5 days per week on average.
What you'll be doing
Build and manage strategic relationships with assigned insurer partners, acting as a trusted point of contact across commercial and operational initiatives.
Advise carrier partners on growth opportunities, sponsorship strategies, market development activity and trading performance improvements.
Deliver insight-led recommendations that support business planning, strengthen partnerships and drive measurable outcomes.
Analyse trading, performance and market data to identify trends, risks and opportunities across strategic carrier relationships.
Produce high-quality reports, presentations and dashboards that support senior stakeholder decision-making.
Lead carrier-focused projects, ensuring delivery against agreed objectives, timelines and outcomes.
Develop business cases and proposals that address partner needs and support future growth opportunities.
Collaborate with stakeholders across Howden Markets, broking, underwriting and delivery teams to maximise partnership value.
Contribute to the development and implementation of insurer engagement strategies aligned to wider business goals.
Partner with insurers, capacity providers and solution providers to enhance strategic relationships and service delivery.
Present updates, insights and recommendations to senior leadership on relationship performance, opportunities and challenges.
Monitor market developments, competitor activity and industry trends to ensure Howden remains well positioned with strategic insurers.
Who we're looking for
Proven experience within account management, consulting, business development or carrier relationship management roles in the insurance sector.
Demonstrated experience working with insurers, brokers or market participants to deliver commercial and strategic outcomes.
Strong understanding of the London Market, including Lloyd’s and the wider composite insurer landscape.
Experience using data and analytics to generate insight, influence stakeholders and support strategic decision-making.
Track record of managing complex stakeholder relationships across multiple business areas.
Experience delivering projects, consultancy engagements or strategic initiatives within a client-facing environment.
Evidence of developing and presenting recommendations, reports and business cases to senior audiences.
Strong knowledge of insurance market structures, trading dynamics and insurer performance measures.
Qualifications
ACII qualified.
Degree educated or equivalent professional experience is desirable.
Strong written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear business insight.
Strong numerical and analytical capability, including experience interpreting trading and performance data
