What this role is all about:

We are looking for a Quality Assurance Supervisor in La Crosse, WI.

 

Primary Schedule: Monday – Friday

 

The Quality Assurance Supervisor works closely with the Quality Management team in the areas of food quality, food safety, sanitation, pest control, environmental monitoring, and internal auditing. The Quality Assurance Supervisor consistently promotes and maintains a safe work environment while striving to ensure quality-focused programs that aid in producing products that meet or exceed customer expectations. This leadership role serves as the primary resource for food safety focused decision-making on the production floor. The QA Supervisors oversees QA Technicians on all three shifts in addition to a QA Lead and Quality Operations Specialist.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage, implement, and monitor SQF, NSF, and other certification programs and procedures.
  • Responsible for hosting on-site audits including 3rd party audits, large customer audits, and certification audits: SQF, NSF, Organic, Halal, Kosher, Gluten Free, etc.  Position will require prompt follow-up on assigned corrective actions when necessary.
  • Assist Quality Management in the maintenance and development of quality programs such as Good Manufacturing Practices, Food Safety Systems/Preventive Controls (PC), Sanitation, Customer Complaint program
  • The QA Supervisor has ownership over the Hold/Release, Supplier Complaint, Corrective/Preventative Actions, Internal Auditing, Pest Control, and Environmental Monitoring programs.
  • Leads assigned customer complaint investigations. Conducts root cause analysis, determines corrective actions, and provides timely written responses back to customers.
  • Monitor environmental results to ensure that technicians thoroughly investigate the cause of any out of specification results and that corrections are effectively implemented. Use trend data to drive positive changes to production and sanitation programs.
  • Compiles information and submits Supplier Complaints when ingredient non-conformities are identified. This role coordinates the supplier complaint process with production, purchasing, and sourcing to ensure that all relevant details are included. The QA Supervisor monitors open supplier complaints reviews all complaint responses prior to closing them.
  • Ensures compliance of Corporate and plant level Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and regulatory requirements by performing regular plant walkthroughs.
  • Conduct necessary inspections such as Internal Audits, Glass/Hard Plastic Inspections, Metal Detection, HACCP reviews and mock recalls at least three times per year on appropriate schedules.
  • Work with production, maintenance, and sanitation to make process improvements that improve first pass quality metrics and reduce the likelihood of non-conformance.
  • Work with plant, corporate and client personnel to resolve day-to-day quality tasks and needs as they arise.
  • Develop training presentation and perform plant-wide food safety training for employees.
  • Manage QA Operations procedures and train QA technicians on procedure updates.
  • Act as primary SQF practitioner in the event the Quality Assurance Manager is absent or when all other SQF practitioners are absent. 

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervisory Responsibilities
    • Responsible for employee relations including work direction of employees, hiring, training, performance reviews, administering policies and procedures, disciplinary action, and compensation recommendations.
    • Direct implementation of departmental objectives, goals and policies.
    • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Works directly with manager and indirectly with Quality Assurance Operations Manager, serving as a back-up for the manager as needed. 
  • Understand and adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices and Safety Protocol.
    • Stop any observed unsafe acts and obey facility safety rules and procedures.
    • Correct or report any observed safety hazards.
    • Support safety policies and programs.

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.

Qualifications:

Education Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or related field required.
  • Equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.

Experience Required:

  • Minimum two (2) years of quality assurance/quality control experience required.
  • Minimum two (2) years of quality experience with food processing preferred.
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of HACCP, GMPs, FDA, or other regulatory compliance programs preferred.

Certification/Licensure Required:

  • HACCP certification preferred.
  • SQF Practitioner certification preferred.
  • PCQI certification preferred.

Skills Required:

  • Ability to read, understand, and follow documents and procedures (SOP, MSDS, GMP, test procedures, and HACCP).
  • Ability to apply logic and methods to solve difficult problems with effective solutions.

  • Basic math plus fractions, decimals and percentages, as well as algebraic calculations.
  • Intermediate computer skills with Microsoft Excel, Power Point, Word, Outlook and field-specific software.
  • Exhibit a professional manner in dealing with others and work to maintain constructive working relationships.

Our La Crosse, WI, plant is home to approximately 330 employees. This facility supplies the food, beverage, and nutritional industries with innovative functional ingredients and superior quality contract manufacturing services.

La Crosse, WI, is nestled between the Mississippi River and the rolling river bluffs. This town is home to a plethora of colleges, high-quality health care, community events, and cultural opportunities.
