Data Engineer Intern (4 January - 30 June 2027)

About The Role

We are seeking a tech-savvy, detail-oriented individual to join the Software Engineering team at CIX, splitting time between hands-on engineering work and day-to-day operation of the data pipelines that keep our carbon registry integrations running.

Responsibilities

• Run the daily cycle for our carbon registry feeds: retrieve exports from registry portals, deliver them into our landing process, and confirm each one has loaded
• Handle routine failure modes- a file that arrives late, arrives empty, gets renamed, or quietly changes format- and investigate anomalies, escalating with what you’ve found
• Provide first response on pipeline alerts during working hours; triage a transient failure that just needs a re-run from a real data problem that needs an engineer, and know when you’re not sure
• Investigate using pipeline logs, the data warehouse, and automated data quality test output; write up findings so whoever picks it up next isn’t starting cold
• Use what you learn operating these pipelines to drive data quality and process improvements, including changes to our data engineering pipelines and transformation models
• Keep runbooks accurate as registries change how their exports work
• Collaborate on the development of software and data solutions for the carbon trading industry; write clean, efficient, well-documented code; participate in testing and debugging

Requirements 

• Careful and methodical with detail, and consistent on repetitive tasks
• Clear written communication
• Basic SQL, or clear evidence you’ll pick it up fast
• Comfortable with CSVs and spreadsheets, including why a file can look fine and still be wrong
• Willing to follow a procedure exactly, and to say when reality has diverged from it; asks questions early
• Eagerness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment; keen on learning more about sustainability
• Desirable, or willing to learn (we’ll teach any of these): Python, Airflow, dbt, Snowflake, Azure, Git, any exposure to carbon markets or sustainability data
• Able to commit a minimum duration of 6-months on a full-time basis
