Description


Summary


The Director of Fundraising is responsible for leading and delivering an ambitious fundraising strategy that drives sustainable long-term income growth across our family of hospital charities. As the charity's senior fundraising leader, the postholder will provide strategic leadership across a diverse portfolio of fundraising programmes, securing support from individuals, philanthropists, corporate partners, trusts and foundations, and community supporters.


Working closely with senior NHS leaders, clinicians, trustees, volunteers and donors, the Director will lead a high-performing fundraising function capable of securing transformational support for patients and families across our hospitals.



Key Responsibilities


Strategic Leadership


· Lead the development and delivery of the charity's fundraising strategy, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives and long-term ambitions.


· Actively contribute as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, helping shape organisational strategy and performance.


· Act as the charity's senior fundraising leader, providing expert advice on fundraising strategy, philanthropy and supporter engagement


· Represent fundraising at senior levels across the charity, NHS Trust and wider stakeholder community.


· Build productive relationships with senior clinicians, executives, trustees and key supporters to maximise fundraising opportunities


Fundraising Leadership


· Lead and develop a high-performing, multi-disciplinary fundraising function encompassing philanthropy, corporate partnerships, individual and legacy giving, and community and events fundraising.


· Drive sustainable income growth through effective portfolio management, strategic investment and performance monitoring.


· Provide strategic leadership for philanthropy, major donor fundraising, fundraising campaigns and capital appeals.


· Drive sustainable income growth through effective portfolio management, investment decisions and performance monitoring.


· Ensure the highest standards of supporter experience across all fundraising activity.


· Lead and support senior managers to develop high-performing, engaged and motivated teams.


· Ensure compliance with all relevant fundraising regulation, legislation and best practice.


Influencing & Collaboration


· Lead collaboration across the foundation, charity, NHS Trust and wider stakeholder community to maximise fundraising opportunities and organisational impact.


· Build and maintain effective relationships with senior NHS leaders, clinicians, trustees, volunteers, philanthropists, corporate partners and other influential stakeholders.


· Act as an ambassador for the charity, representing the organisation with credibility, influence and professionalism.


· Lead the annual fundraising planning and budgeting process, ensuring effective alignment with organisational priorities and resources.


· Promote understanding of fundraising across the organisation, enabling colleagues and stakeholders to play an active role in supporting fundraising success.


· Work collaboratively across the charity and NHS Trust to develop compelling cases for support and fundraising propositions.


Other Responsibilities


· Champion equality, diversity and inclusion across fundraising activities, supporter engagement and team development.


· Deputise for the Executive Director of Charities where required.


· Undertake any other duties commensurate with the seniority and responsibilities of the role.

Knowledge, experience, and qualifications:


· Proven track record of delivering sustained fundraising income growth.


· Significant experience in a senior fundraising leadership role.


· Demonstrable experience of leading and developing high-performing, multi-disciplinary fundraising teams.


· Significant experience of developing and leading philanthropy and major giving programmes.


· Experience of leading a fundraising operation in a complex organisation, such as a charity, NHS, clinical, medical research, higher education or similarly complex stakeholder environment.


· Experience of leading a significant capital appeal, comprehensive campaign or other major fundraising initiative.


· Demonstrable success in securing and stewarding major donor relationships and high-value gifts.


· Experience of working effectively with trustees, senior volunteers, executives and influential external stakeholders.


· Evidence of delivering income growth across multiple fundraising channels.


· Strong understanding of fundraising regulation, governance and sector best practice.
