POSITION SPECIFICS

Title: Physical Therapy Assistant

FTE: 1.0 FTE (40 hours/week)

Schedule: Mon, Wed, Fri at Wellspring Campus 8:30a – 5:00p; Tues, Thurs at Lodi Clinic 8:30a – 5:00p

Location: Wellspring & Lodi Clinic

Holiday Rotation: None

Weekend Rotation: None

On Call Requirements: None

 POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of a physical therapist, the physical therapy assistant carries out treatment plans as outlined by the physical therapist, to help patients gain increased function and independence.

POSITION TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Under the supervision of a physical therapist, implement the plan of care utilizing therapeutic procedures, using objective tests and measurements, pain ratings and other professionally acceptable guidelines.
• Knowledge of contraindications, indications and applications of therapeutic agents including, but not limited to, heat, cold, water, electrical and mechanical and such procedures as therapeutic, functional, progressive resistance, and manual techniques.
• Provide appropriate documentation on patient's progress for physician, physical therapist, insurance carrier and necessary billing/coding personnel.
• Provide written and verbal communication to physical therapist regarding patient's status and response to treatment.
• Provide in-service education as requested.
• Assist in effective patient discharge planning with physical therapist. Encourage exchange of information and promote role of rehabilitation including assisting with effective inpatient discharge planning with communication to PCC leader.
• Participate in job shadow program with high school and other interested persons and schools.
• Maintain safe operation of equipment and inform manager regarding needed repairs.
• Maintain department in a neat and orderly manner.
• Attend appropriate continuing education programs to continually improve the quality of skills delivered, and to maintain or advance individual competency.
• Attend all mandatory Hospital in-services and maintain BLS certification.
• Instruct and educate members of patient's family or other caregivers to facilitate home programs, treatment objectives, safety precautions and risk factors.

• Demonstrate knowledge and safe/proper techniques of infection control, safety, hazard and emergent procedures established by SPH.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education:

• Required: Associate Degree as a Physical Therapy Assistant
• Preferred: None

Experience:

• Required: None
• Preferred: 1 to 3 years of experience desirable; Sports medicine background preferred.

Licenses and Registrations:

• Required: WI licensure as a physical therapist assistant
• Preferred: None

Certification(s):

• Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) – within 3 months of hire
• Preferred: None
