Financial Counselor (Patient Financial Services) - FT/80

Description

The Financial Counselor will 

• Schedule appointments with patients/guarantors, etc. to discuss the financial tools available, the insurance application process, and the financial application process. 
• Process applications for Medicaid, Vermont Health Connect Insurance plans (The Market Place ACA plans), and financial assistance. 
• Demonstrate understanding of patient account balances, insurance coverage, patient liabilities, and financial assistance. 
• Effectively utilize Hospital information systems, Microsoft Office applications, and other software tools necessary to perform assigned duties.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Human Services, Social Services, or related field (preferred)
• Two (2) years’ customer service experience working with diverse demographics, including patients in crisis (preferred)
• Two (2) years’ healthcare billing, insurance, patient access, registration, financial counseling, or related healthcare experience (preferred)
• Two (2) years’ experience with Microsoft Office Suite (preferred)
• Must complete online coursework and examination to obtain Certified Vermont Assister certification within 30 days of hire and maintain certification as required
• Possesses excellent oral and written communication skills
• Patient advocacy skills
• Demonstrates empathy, professionalism, and respect when assisting patients and families with financial and insurance-related matters
• Self-motivated and functions independently
• Demonstrates problem-solving and problem-prevention skills
• Maintains strict confidentiality and HIPAA compliance

Salary Range: The base rate for this position is $23.00 - $26.00 per hour. The hourly range reflected above is a good faith estimate of base pay for the position. The rate for this position ultimately will be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate.
