Moneycare Financial Counsellor (Problem Gambling)

Maroochydore | Full-Time | SCHADS Level 5 (Level 4 considered for unaccredited Financial Counsellors)

The Salvation Army's Moneycare team is looking for a compassionate and skilled professional to support individuals and families experiencing financial hardship, particularly where problem gambling has impacted financial wellbeing, relationships and mental health.

About the Role

As a Moneycare Financial Counsellor (Problem Gambling), you'll provide specialist financial counselling, advocacy and case management services to people experiencing financial hardship and gambling-related financial challenges.

Working from our Maroochydore site, you'll support clients to address immediate financial pressures while helping them build long-term financial capability and wellbeing. You'll take a holistic, person-centred approach, working alongside individuals to develop practical solutions, navigate complex financial situations and connect with broader support services.

Role and responsibilities

Supporting Clients Through Financial Hardship

  • Deliver high-quality financial counselling and case management services.
  • Assist clients impacted by gambling-related debt, financial stress and hardship.
  • Develop tailored action plans that promote financial stability and recovery.
  • Advocate with creditors, financial institutions and service providers on behalf of clients.
  • Support clients to access relevant community and support services.

Building Strong Client Relationships

  • Create respectful, trusting relationships that encourage self-determination and positive change.
  • Undertake ongoing assessments and collaboratively review progress toward goals.
  • Deliver services using a holistic, strengths-based approach focused on long-term outcomes.

Community Education & Prevention

  • Facilitate financial literacy and financial capability workshops.
  • Support community engagement activities that promote informed financial decision-making.
  • Help individuals and families develop greater financial resilience and confidence.

Quality, Reporting & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate case notes and client records using SAMIS.
  • Contribute to funding and organisational reporting requirements.
  • Identify risks, service gaps and opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Participate in professional development, reflective practice and self-care activities.

Essential Qualifications

Level 5

  • Diploma of Financial counselling
  • Accredited member of a recognised state-based Financial Counselling Association.
  • Problem Gambling Skillset Accreditation or willingness to obtain as soon as possible

Level 4

  • Diploma of Financial Counselling.
  • Working towards accreditation with a recognised Financial Counselling Association.
  • Problem Gambling Skillset Accreditation or willingness to obtain as soon as possible
  • Excellent advocacy, communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to manage complex caseloads while delivering person-centred support.
  • Strong administration and case documentation skills.
  • Current Working with Children Check.
