About the Role

As a Moneycare Financial Counsellor, you will deliver high-quality financial counselling and casework services to individuals experiencing financial hardship or those seeking to prevent financial difficulties before they arise.

You'll work collaboratively with community members to develop personalised action plans, provide advocacy with creditors and service providers, access community supports, and help people build the knowledge and confidence needed to make informed financial decisions.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Counselling & Case Management

• Provide financial counselling, support, advocacy and case management services.
• Assess client needs and develop tailored financial wellbeing plans.
• Assist clients to navigate debt, financial hardship, budgeting challenges and financial exclusion.
• Advocate on behalf of clients with creditors, service providers and external agencies.
• Monitor and review client progress to achieve sustainable outcomes.

Client Engagement

• Build strong, respectful and empowering relationships with community members.
• Promote self-determination and active participation in case planning.
• Deliver support using a holistic, strengths-based approach.

Community Education

• Facilitate financial literacy and financial capability workshops.
• Support community engagement initiatives designed to improve financial wellbeing and resilience.

Compliance & Reporting

• Maintain accurate case notes and records using SAMIS and other Salvation Army systems.
• Contribute to funding and organisational reporting requirements.
• Identify risks and service gaps and recommend service improvements.

Essential Qualifications

Level 5

• Diploma of Financial Counselling.
• Accredited member of a recognised state-based Financial Counselling Association.

Level 4

• Diploma of Financial Counselling.
• Working towards accreditation with a recognised Financial Counselling Association.

Experience & Skills

• Experience within community services, social services, financial wellbeing, welfare, counselling or related sectors.
• Strong understanding of financial hardship, poverty, financial exclusion and their impacts on individuals and families.
• Excellent communication, advocacy and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to manage a diverse caseload and work autonomously while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
• Strong administration and case management skills.

Mandatory Requirements

• Current Working with Children Check.
• Eligibility to work in Australia.
