Role Summary
The Lead, Country People Partnering role supports the execution of Japan country People priorities and translates enterprise People strategy into locally relevant, legally sound and business-led outcomes.
The role partners with People Leaders, the Country Head, Japan ExCo, Business People Partners, Centers of Excellence, People Services and Employee Relations to strengthen the One LSEG culture, build leadership and talent pipeline visibility, improve colleague engagement, enable organizational change and support fair, consistent performance enablement.
· The role requires stronger ownership of country plan execution, measurable People outcomes and advisory leadership support.
· Engagement, talent planning and change priorities should be co-owned by leaders, with the Country People Partner enabling structure, insight and follow-through.
· Performance enablement, ER and redundancy activity require disciplined process, risk awareness, leader coaching and alignment with local labor requirements.
· Country People priorities should be tracked through metrics, dashboards and concise narratives that explain impact, risk and decisions needed.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic People Partnering
- Partner with business leaders in Japan to deliver people strategies that support business growth and organizational effectiveness.
- Provide trusted advice on employee relations, workforce challenges, leadership effectiveness, and people-related decisions.
- Work closely with regional and global HR teams to ensure local priorities align with global People initiatives.
Talent & Leadership Development
- Drive talent planning and succession activities for critical roles in Japan.
- Build and maintain internal and external talent pipelines to support future business needs.
- Lead and support leadership development initiatives, mentoring programs, and high-potential talent programs.
Employee Engagement & Culture
- Partner with leaders to improve employee engagement, colleague experience, and organizational culture.
- Translate employee feedback into meaningful actions that strengthen trust, collaboration, and inclusion.
- Promote and reinforce a strong One LSEG culture across teams and functions.
Change Management & Performance Enablement
- Support leaders through organizational changes, restructures, and business transformation initiatives.
- Coach leaders on performance management, feedback, and employee development conversations.
- Partner with Employee Relations and Legal teams to manage sensitive people matters in a fair and compliant manner.
Learning & Capability Building
- Support initiatives that help employees and leaders develop new skills, grow their careers, and adapt to change.
- Facilitate program focused on leadership, communication, collaboration, and cultural intelligence.
- Identify development opportunities based on business needs and employee feedback.
HR Operations & Continuous Improvement
- Ensure a positive employee experience through effective HR processes and solutions.
- Collaborate with HR Ops and CoEs to deliver efficient and high-quality support.
- Drive process improvements and leverage technology, data, and AI-enabled solutions to enhance HR effectiveness.
Qualifications and Experience
· Relevant university degree or equivalent professional experience; HR certification is advantageous but not essential.
· Strong HR experience across business partnering, employee relations, performance management, talent planning, organizational change and HR operations.
· Near-native Japanese and business-level English, with the confidence to operate in a global matrix environment.
· Advanced Microsoft Office and collaboration tool capability, including Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
· Experience using HR systems and case management tools such as Workday and ServiceNow is preferred.
· Experience supporting leaders through organizational transformation, engagement follow-up, redundancy or performance enablement is highly valued.
· AI literacy: demonstrates strong AI fluency and data literacy, using AI-enabled tools to generate workforce insights, improve decision-making, and simplify work while applying sound judgement, risk awareness, and appropriate human oversight.
