Specialist Cloud Engineer – AWS
In this role as a Specialist Cloud Engineer – AWS at Amgen, you will design, develop, and support cloud-native operations and solutions that enable scalable, reliable, and secure cloud platforms. You will work closely with Cloud Engineering, Cloud Operations, Automation, and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) teams to build innovative solutions, improve operational efficiency, and enhance the developer and user experience across Amgen's cloud ecosystem.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Cloud Engineering & Operations
- Design and implement AI/GenAI-powered cloud solutions, leveraging intelligent agents and workflow automation to improve operational efficiency and business outcomes.
- Build, manage, and support cloud platforms and services, ensuring they are secure, reliable, scalable, and cost-effective.
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform, CloudFormation, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Implement automation, observability, and AIOps capabilities to improve platform reliability, monitoring, and engineering productivity.
- Troubleshoot complex production issues, support incident resolution, and perform root cause analysis to enhance service stability.
- Work closely with security and engineering teams to implement IAM, encryption, governance, and compliance controls with a security-first mindset.
- Contribute to cloud modernisation and continuous improvement initiatives by applying operations/engineering best practices, automation, and technical problem-solving.
- Support AWS FinOps activities, including cost optimisation, resource utilisation reviews, budgeting inputs, forecasting support, and cloud spend visibility.
- Ensure cloud platforms comply with enterprise standards for security, risk controls, reliability, and operational excellence.
Basic Qualifications:
- Master’s degree and 6 to 8 years of experience in cloud operations, with at least 3 years of hands-on technical ownership in AWS cloud engineering OR
- Bachelor’s degree and 8 to 10 years of experience in cloud operations, with at least 4 years of hands-on technical ownership in AWS cloud engineering OR
- Diploma and 10 to 12 years of experience in cloud operations, with at least 5 years of hands-on technical ownership in AWS cloud engineering OR
- Deep expertise in AWS services (EC2, S3, SCPs, RDS, Lambda, Control Tower, Landing Zone, R53, EKS, IAM, VPC, etc.).
- Expertise in implementing solution for cloud operations work leveraging AI, Agents, Workflows etc..
- Strong knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation frameworks.
- Experience in SRE principles including observability, MTTR, SLIs/SLOs, and incident response.
- Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and cloud-native application deployment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proven experience in building and operating large-scale AWS platforms, with expertise in AI and agent-based solutions leveraging Amazon Bedrock, Agent Core, and modern cloud automation frameworks.
- Strong experience implementing enterprise cloud solutions, with hands-on expertise in cloud security, compliance controls, risk controls, and operational excellence frameworks.
- Proven expertise in building automation, monitoring, observability, and AIOps solutions within AWS environments to drive platform reliability, reduce operational toil, and accelerate engineering delivery.
- Strong understanding of AWS FinOps principles and cloud financial optimisation practices, including cost analysis, budgeting inputs, forecasting support, chargeback/show back models, and cloud spend visibility.
- Strong experience supporting and operating enterprise-scale AWS and GCP environments, with deep technical expertise in AWS cloud services, architecture, security, automation, and operational best practices.
