Supervisor Settlements - Verifiable Costs

JOB SUMMARY

Functions as the subject matter expert and people leader for the ERCOT Verifiable Cost Process, overseeing a team of Settlement/Verifiable Cost Analysts who review and approve cost information submitted to ERCOT in a variety of data formats. Combines deep technical knowledge of power plant operations, accounting, and market rules with supervisory responsibility for staffing, performance management, workload prioritization, and professional development of the VC team. Serves as an escalation point for complex or disputed cost determinations and represents the VC function in cross-departmental and market-facing discussions.

JOB DUTIES

• Responsible for hiring, coaching, training, and performance management of staff.
• Frequently interacts with direct reports and functional peer groups. Interaction normally requires the ability to gain cooperation of others.
• Provides direct supervision to professional individual contributors and/or skilled, support individual contributors. Acts as an advisor to department and may become actively involved, as required, to meet schedules and resolve problems. A small portion of time is normally spent performing individual tasks related to the department. Typically has full responsibility for direct reports.
• May provide input to budgeting and financial decisions that impact the department. Requests approval for financial actions beyond a limited scope per policy.

ADDITIONAL JOB DUTIES

Team Leadership & Development

• Supervises, coaches, and develops Verifiable Cost Analysts, including hiring, onboarding, performance reviews, and career development planning.
• Assigns and prioritizes workload across the VC team to meet settlement deadlines, balancing complex or high-risk reviews against day-to-day volume.
• Builds team capability through training on the Verifiable Cost Manual, ERCOT Protocols, and evolving generation technologies, fuel markets, and cost structures.
• Establishes and monitors quality-control standards for cost and efficiency parameter reviews to ensure consistency across analysts.

Technical & Process Oversight

• Serves as the escalation point for complex O&M cost, heat rate, and operational parameter reviews for generating resources, including disputed or ambiguous determinations.
• Directs the development and maintenance of tools, calculations, and procedures used by the team to perform Verifiable Cost analysis, driving improvements in accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness.
• Maintains and evolves subject-matter expertise in the ERCOT competitive energy markets, generation technologies, and regulatory developments affecting Verifiable Costs and Settlements.
• Oversees resolution of client questions and disputes related to settlement computations, ensuring timely and well-documented outcomes.

Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Engagement

• Communicates team status, risks, and key issues to management through formal reports and regular updates.
• Builds and maintains strong working relationships with Settlement, Credit, Retail, and Metering teams, as well as staff in other ERCOT departments.
• Represents the Verifiable Cost function in discussions with Market Participants, regulatory stakeholders, and internal projects.
• Supports and facilitates the implementation and enhancement of ERCOT's Commercial Operation Systems—providing VC-specific requirements, testing support, and certification criteria—while managing systems development, workflow procedures, and cross-departmental coordination with ERCOT clients through effective project and contract management

EXPERIENCE

• Requires minimum 5 years job related work experience and 1 year in a leadership role preferred in excess of degree requirements. Minimum years of job related experience can include time in leadership roles.
• Prefer prior experience leading, mentoring, or supervising analysts, or demonstrated readiness to take on people-management responsibilities.
• Require ability to work with Excel, including complex formulas, pivot tables, and graphs; comfortable interpreting and manipulating algebraic equations.
• Prefer experience with, or strong aptitude for, SQL, Visual Basic, and SAS.
• Prefer industry experience relating to power plant operational and cost parameters
• Require strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

EDUCATION

• Bachelor's Degree : Business, Engineering, Accounting or related field (Required)
• Master's Degree : Business, Engineering, Accounting or related field  (Preferred)
• or a combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge to a major in such fields is required

Expected Salary Range:

$123,000 - $170,000
