Tax Lead

The Role

Gigs operates at the intersection of telecom, payments, and software, one of the most complex tax environments a company can be in. We sell connectivity across multiple markets, through multiple entities, under commercial models that range from pure API platform fees to merchant-of-record setups.

As our Tax Lead, you will own everything tax at Gigs: indirect tax, direct tax, wage tax, transfer pricing and tax strategy. You'll be the first dedicated tax hire, building the function from the ground up. That means you'll set the strategy and do the hands-on work, from designing our global tax operating model to reviewing a VAT registration threshold in a new market. You'll work closely with Strategic Finance, Legal, and our external advisors, and you'll be the go-to person for anyone in the company with a question that touches tax.

This is a rare chance to shape the tax posture of a fast-growing company from a nearly blank slate, in a domain (telecom) where getting tax right is genuinely hard and genuinely a competitive advantage.

What you will do

• Own indirect tax globally. Manage VAT, GST, and US sales and telecom taxes across all markets where Gigs and its customers operate. Determine the correct treatment for new products, markets, and commercial models (including merchant-of-record constructs), and own registrations, filings, and compliance through external providers.
• Own direct tax and compliance. Manage corporate income tax across our entities in the US and Europe, including provisioning, return processes with external advisors, and the group compliance calendar. Nothing gets filed late, and nothing surprises us.
• Own transfer pricing. Design, document, and defend our intercompany arrangements, including IP licensing structures, service agreements, and arm's-length pricing. Keep documentation current as the business evolves and manage related advisor workstreams.
• Be the tax voice in commercial decisions. Advise sales, product, and finance on the tax implications of new deals, pricing models, market entries, and entity structuring before they're signed, not after.
• Build scalable tax infrastructure. Implement the tools, processes, and data flows to calculate, collect, and remit taxes accurately as transaction volumes grow, working with Engineering where tax logic lives in the product.
• Manage advisors and authorities. Run our relationships with external tax advisors across jurisdictions, scope their work tightly, and represent Gigs in audits, rulings, and inquiries from tax authorities.
• Support strategic projects. Lead tax workstreams for e.g. expansion into new markets.

What we are looking for

• 7+ years of progressive tax experience, ideally combining Big 4 (or comparable advisory) with an in-house role at a fast-growing international tech company.
• You don't need to be an expert in all areas of taxation, but you do need to be pro-active and eager to learn about all areas of taxation, to become a true generalist.
• Experience with cross-border structures: multi-entity groups, intercompany agreements, IP ownership, and permanent establishment risk.
• Familiarity with the tax complexity of digital services, marketplaces, or telecom (US telecom taxes and fees, EU VAT on electronically supplied services, merchant-of-record models) is a strong plus.
• A builder's mindset: comfortable being the first tax hire, setting up processes from scratch, and doing the work yourself before there's a team.
• Commercial judgment: you translate tax risk into clear recommendations and trade-offs that non-tax colleagues can act on, rather than memos that say "it depends."
• Willingness to work across US and European time zones as needed.
