Team / division overview
The Senior AFC & Compliance Officer serves as the local Anti-Financial Crime and Compliance Officer for the Spanish branches of DWS regulated entities. The role provides independent second-line oversight and advisory services across the full spectrum of DWS activities in Spain, including Asset Management, Distribution, Alternatives, Technology & Operations, Corporate Functions and strategic business initiatives.
The position is fully integrated into the global DWS AFC & Compliance organization and acts as the primary local point of contact for Spanish regulatory authorities, senior management and internal governance bodies regarding Anti-Financial Crime and Compliance matters.
Your responsibilities –
As our Senior AFC & Compliance Officer- VP you will:
- Act as the designated local AFC & Compliance Officer for DWS regulated branches in Spain and ensure the effective implementation of the DWS AFC & Compliance Framework.
- Provide independent oversight of adherence to applicable Spanish, European and DWS internal regulatory requirements.
- Monitor regulatory developments affecting the DWS business in Spain and coordinate implementation activities with relevant stakeholders.
- Promote a strong culture of integrity, conduct, compliance and risk awareness across all business and infrastructure functions.
- Provide proactive AFC & Compliance advice and challenge to senior management, business units and infrastructure functions on regulatory and compliance matters.
- Advise on conflicts of interest, personal account dealing, market conduct, cross-border business activities
- Act as Compliance and AFC representative in governance forums, business committees and project steering groups.
- Lead and coordinate Compliance and AFC risk assessments for Spanish branches within the DWS Compliance Risk Assessment framework.
- Assess inherent risks, control effectiveness and residual risk profiles and ensure appropriate documentation and governance.
- Execute and oversee second-line monitoring and testing activities covering applicable Compliance and AFC risk areas.
- Ensure appropriate documentation of risk assessments, monitoring activities, findings and governance decisions.
- Provide AFC advice, challenge and oversight regarding financial crime risks and associated controls.
- Act as the primary AFC & Compliance contact for local regulators and support regulatory inspections, requests and thematic reviews.
- Prepare and contribute to board, management and committee reporting for local governance forums and regulated entities.
- Escalate material AFC & Compliance risks, incidents and regulatory matters appropriately within the DWS governance framework.
- Support the development and maintenance of local policies, procedures and governance documentation.
- Deliver AFC & Compliance training and awareness initiatives to employees and management.
- Support the development of a strong compliance culture through communication, engagement and targeted guidance.
- Provide subject matter expertise and coaching to business stakeholders and control functions.
We are looking for:
- University degree, ideally in Law, Economics, Business Administration, Finance or a related discipline.
- Significant professional experience (typically 7+ years) within Compliance, Anti-Financial Crime, Legal, Risk or other control functions in the financial services industry.
- Strong knowledge of Spanish, European and international financial services regulation applicable to asset managers and investment firms.
- Experience interacting with regulators, senior management and governance committees.
- Sound understanding of Asset Management, Distribution, Alternatives, Technology & Operations and supporting control frameworks.
- Proven ability to balance effective risk management with commercial awareness and business partnership.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication, presentation and influencing capabilities.
- Fluent Spanish and English. Additional European languages would be an advantage.
