Position Title: Department of Labor Journeyman Maintenance Technician
Location: International Automotive Components (IAC), Alma, Michigan
Department: Maintenance
Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor / Technical Manager
Position Summary
International Automotive Components (IAC) is seeking a skilled Department of Labor (DOL) Journeyman Maintenance Technician to support manufacturing operations at our Alma, Michigan facility. This position is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving production and facility equipment used in the manufacturing of automotive interior plastic components.
The Journeyman Maintenance Technician will work on a variety of equipment including injection molding machines of varying tonnages, automated paint line systems, assembly line equipment, robotics, conveyor systems, material handling equipment, auxiliary processing equipment, and facility support systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for both reactive maintenance and preventative maintenance activities to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable plant operations.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and automation-related issues on production equipment.
- Maintain and repair injection molding machines ranging from small to large tonnage presses.
- Troubleshoot and repair auxiliary equipment including:
- Chillers
- Dryers
- Temperature control units
- Material conveying systems
- Compressors
- Robots and automation systems
- Perform maintenance and repairs on automated paint line system and associated conveyors, pumps, ovens, and material delivery equipment.
- Support assembly line equipment including automated fixtures, conveyors, vision systems, and leak testing equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance (PM) activities according to established schedules and standards.
- Complete predictive and corrective maintenance tasks to minimize downtime and improve equipment reliability.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, hydraulic diagrams, pneumatic diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Repair and maintain electrical systems including motors, drives, sensors, relays, control panels, and power distribution systems.
- Utilize CMMS or maintenance tracking systems to document work orders, repairs, PM activities, and parts usage.
- Support production teams during equipment startups, changeovers, and process troubleshooting.
- Ensure compliance with all safety requirements, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), PPE, and environmental regulations.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area following 5S principles.
- Participate in on-call, weekend, overtime, and emergency maintenance activities as required.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of a U.S. Department of Labor recognized Journeyman program in Industrial Maintenance, Electrical Maintenance, Mechatronics, Millwright, Machine Repair, or a related skilled trade.
- Journeyman Card required.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in manufacturing maintenance environments.

- Proficient in the use of diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and precision measuring instruments.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in automotive manufacturing.
- Experience troubleshooting injection molding equipment and supporting systems.
- Experience with robotics and automated production systems.
- Experience with servo systems, VFDs, and industrial networking.
- Forklift, aerial lift, or crane operation certification.
- Welding and fabrication experience.
- Experience supporting automated paint operations.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, kneel, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally more with assistance.
- Ability to work at heights and operate lifts when required.
- Ability to perform work in manufacturing environments with exposure to noise, heat, moving machinery, and industrial chemicals while utilizing required PPE.
