Intelligent Automation Engineer

The Leidos Digital Sector is seeking an experienced Intelligent Automation Engineer; this position will allow for full time telework from any U.S. based location.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Leidos is seeking an experienced Intelligent Automation Engineer to design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain enterprise intelligent automation solutions. This position will translate approved business and technical requirements into reliable automations using an enterprise Robotic Process Automation (RPA) platform, platform-native code and reusable components, AI agents, APIs, databases, business applications, and scripts. The engineer will collaborate across CIO, business stakeholders to deliver secure, supportable, and scalable solutions.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Analyze approved requirements and translate into automation tasks.
• Design, develop, configure, and test automations using the enterprise RPA platform, including platform actions, reusable components, custom code, and approved AI.
• Develop intelligent automation solutions that incorporate AI agents and AI-enabled services when approved, including appropriate guardrails, validation, exception handling, and human-in-the-loop controls.
• Integrate automation solutions with REST and SOAP APIs, relational databases, enterprise applications, web applications, files, queues, and other system interfaces.
• Develop and maintain supporting scripts and utilities using languages such as Python, PowerShell, C#, or JavaScript as appropriate to the approved solution design.
• Implement robust logging, monitoring, retry logic, exception handling, auditability, configuration management, and secure credential handling.
• Create unit and integration tests, support user acceptance testing, resolve defects, and provide test evidence, and delivered functionality.
• Follow established software development lifecycle, change management, source control, peer review, cybersecurity, and release management processes across development, test, and production environments.
• Support deployment and production operations, investigate failures, perform root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions that improve automation reliability and maintainability.
• Participate code reviews and contribute reusable patterns, development standards, and engineering best practices to the automation program.
• Identify opportunities to simplify, optimize, and modernize existing automations while maintaining approved business outcomes and control requirements.
• Apply software engineering best practices (version control, CI/CD, testing, documentation) to all projects.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, or related technical discipline and 4+ yrs of experience; additional years of professional related experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree. 
• Demonstrated professional experience developing production automation or software solutions using an enterprise RPA or workflow automation platform. (e.g., Automation Anywhere, UiPath, Power Automate).
• Experience with at least one general-purpose scripting or programming language such as Python, PowerShell, C#, Java, or JavaScript.
• Experience integrating software or automation solutions with REST APIs, web services, databases, and enterprise applications.
• Working knowledge of SQL and relational database concepts, including querying, data validation, and troubleshooting data interactions.
• Experience developing solutions that interact with web and desktop user interfaces.
• Understanding of software engineering practices including modular design, source control, code review, testing, debugging, documentation, and controlled deployment.
• Experience implementing operational controls such as error handling, logging and monitoring.
• Ability to interpret requirements, troubleshoot complex technical issues, and deliver maintainable solutions within established technical and security standards.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with technical teams, analysts, application owners, and business stakeholders.
• US Citizenship is required.

KEY COMPETENCIES:

• Analyze, map, and optimize business processes, then design automation solutions combining RPA platforms, code, AI agents, APIs, and databases
• Strong software engineering fundamentals: modular design, testing, debugging, version control, and maintainable code
• Experience integrating APIs, structured data, and enterprise systems using standard authentication and integration patterns
• Build resilient, observable automations with strong exception handling, auditability, and production support
• Deliver solutions within approved security, access-control, and change-management requirements
• Collaborate across analysts, stakeholders, and operations teams, clearly communicating technical designs, risks, and documentation

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Hands-on experience with Automation Anywhere, UiPath, Microsoft Power Automate, or a comparable enterprise RPA platform.
• Experience designing or integrating AI agents, large language model services, agentic workflows, or other AI-enabled automation capabilities.
• Experience with API authentication and enterprise integration patterns, including OAuth, service accounts, JSON and XML.
• Experience with Oracle or other enterprise database technologies.
• Experience supporting automation platforms across development, test/QA, and production environments.
• Relevant RPA, cloud, AI, software engineering, or automation platform certifications.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $87,100.00 - $157,450.00
