This business closely partners with our U.S. stores and eCommerce business to serve customers by empowering associates, stores and merchants with technology innovation. From grocery and entertainment to sporting goods and crafts, Walmart U.S. provides the deep assortment that our customers appreciate — whether they're shopping online at Walmart.com, through one of our mobile apps or shopping in a store.
The focus areas include online customer experience, omni experience with stores & online, merchant tools, merchant data science and search & personalization.
Our team is responsible for design, development, and operations of large-scale system operating high scale. We interact with multiple teams across the company to provide scalable robust technical solutions.
Emphasizing mentorship, problem solving, and data-driven decision making, we enhance platform capabilities and developer productivity. Together, we drive continuous improvement through automation, DevOps practices, and cloud financial management and deliver impactful technology that supports global retail operations and advances Walmart’s commitment to operational excellence.
What you'll do:
- Technical Leadership: Drive the technical vision and strategy for the engineering team. Driving team towards AI first mindset. Stay current with cutting-edge technologies and best practices in software engineering.
- Business Acumen and Strategic Planning: Comprehend the business context of the work, make informed decisions that align with the overall leadership vision and strategy and identify opportunities to leverage technology to drive business outcomes.
- Team Management: Manage a team of highly skilled engineers. Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative work environment. Facilitate team meetings, code reviews, and knowledge sharing sessions.
- Project Management: Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget. Monitor project progress, manage risks, and ensure high standards of quality.
- Mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship to team members. Promote continuous learning and professional development within the team.
- Own end-to-end systems in the domain infrastructure and foster continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance processes, tools, and products.
What you'll bring:
- Deep expertise in architecture and design patterns, cloud-native microservices, and building resilient, reliable, high-quality software.
- Strong technical mindset with hands-on product development experience and the ability to deep-dive into complex technical issues.
- Exposure to program management practices, including dependency management and cross-team development tracking.
- Hands-on experience with developer platforms is a strong advantage.
- Proven ability to build, lead, and mentor high-performing engineering teams.

Minimum qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 10 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
- 10 to 12 years of relevant experience in software development, Minimum of 3 years of experience as engineering manager with agile principles and practices. Experience in leading Scrum teams.
- Hands on experience in building scalable cloud native software platforms/applications
- Very strong understanding and experience in software development lifecycle.
- Strong Java/J2EE, Full Stack, React native skill, NodeJS, iOS, Android or any other front end experience
- Strong understanding of architecture, database, communications
- SQL/Cosmos/Cassandra/Azure database proficiency
Preferred qualifications
- Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as engineering manager
