Description
We are seeking an experienced Structural Steel Project Manager to join our team and oversee commercial and industrial structural steel and precast construction projects from initial planning through field installation and final closeout.
We are looking for someone with direct experience working for a structural steel contractor, steel fabricator, or specialty steel erection company. This role requires a strong understanding of the full structural steel project lifecycle, including engineering, detailing, fabrication, procurement, transportation, and field erection.
Important: Direct structural steel project management experience is required. Candidates with only general commercial construction experience will not qualify.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage structural steel and precast projects from initial kickoff through installation, turnover, and final closeout.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, purchasing plans, fabrication milestones, staffing requirements, and equipment plans.
- Coordinate detailers, fabricators, superintendents, erectors, crane operators, subcontractors, suppliers, and general contractors.
- Review structural drawings, shop drawings, erection plans, specifications, and contracts to verify project scope and resolve discrepancies.
- Coordinate engineering approvals, detailing, shop production, material releases, deliveries, and field erection to meet project milestones.
- Monitor job costs, labor productivity, billing, financial forecasts, change orders, and overall project profitability.
- Manage RFIs, submittals, purchase orders, payment applications, change documentation, and project records.
- Oversee fabrication progress, shipping schedules, delivery sequencing, crane requirements, and jobsite logistics.
- Ensure our field crews have approved drawings, steel components, equipment, and labor available when needed.
- Resolve detailing errors, fabrication constraints, transportation delays, and installation conflicts to minimize schedule disruptions.
- Plan erection activities with field supervisors, crane operators, general contractors, and other trades to support safe and efficient installation.
- Lead project meetings and communicate schedule updates, financial performance, risks, and outstanding decisions to stakeholders.
- Monitor subcontractor and supplier performance against contractual obligations, quality standards, safety requirements, and schedules.
- Oversee inspections, punch-list completion, warranty obligations, project handover, and final closeout.
- Maintain strong working relationships with owners, engineers, fabricators, suppliers, erectors, and construction partners.
