POSITION OVERVIEW

The Asset Management Team is seeking an Analyst who will be involved in all aspects of the investment review and portfolio management process. You will assist in the management of an existing portfolio of investments across the VC Asset Management Team.

CHALLENGES TO BE MET

Investment Management & Review

• As an integral part of the deal team, you will support the team lead in:
  • conducting quarterly financial and business plan reviews;
  • helping prepare investment memoranda and recommendations;
  • helping develop exit plans;
  • preparing for communications with management and investors; and
  • the evaluation and assessment of any follow-on investments including conducting due diligence including conducting market research and analysis, formulating financial forecasts, reviewing management, competition, etc.

• You will assist the deal team in managing portfolio companies using appropriate databases and research reports and by participating in interactions with portfolio company management.

Portfolio Management

• Update and manage the Asset Management dashboards to ensure that all investments and returns are properly tracked, and take initiative to continuously improve our visibility on the portfolio;
• Ensure that new and existing investments are properly documented by monitoring, updating, financial analysis, forecasting, account tracking, back-office support, disbursements, etc.;
• Actively participate in the semi-annual account update process, ensuring that all company reviews are complete and accurate;
• Perform Know Your Client and Anti-Money Laundering checks on portfolio company management and investors as required;
• Promptly respond to all inquiries from portfolio companies and investors in a courteous and efficient manner, with direction from the deal team lead as well as;
• Ensure that the investment research files, business plans and other information collected by the team are maintained in conformity with BDC’s policies and procedures;
• Respond to senior management requests by undertaking special projects that include financial and non-financial analysis, work on complex forecasting models and participate in monitoring and reporting results of the VC Asset Management Team; and
• Support other team members across the full life-cycle of an investment.

The ideal candidate should have strong financial acumen, an entrepreneurial spirit, a passion for helping companies succeed and strong knowledge of the tech ecosystem. With outstanding dynamism, curiosity and motivation, the candidate will be able to operate well in an ambiguous and rapidly changing environment.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

• Two years of experience in a venture capital firm, technology company, or a financial institution in an investment banking or lending role.
• A bachelor’s degree in commerce is preferred.  Bachelor’s degrees in science, Economics, Technology, Engineering may also be considered if the candidate has finance credentials.
• CFA charterholder, or active enrollment/progress in the CFA Program, would be  considered an asset.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
• Ability to work under pressure, deal with abstract concepts and multi-task.
• Excellent analytical skills, ability to assess the merits of new technologies, size and market adoption rates, and competitive forces when introducing new products.
• Ability to prepare financial forecasts and pro-forma financial statements.
• Knowledge of securities and share structures used in the venture capital industry.
• Ability to evaluate and value technology-oriented, early-stage businesses.
• Good communicator and demonstrated ability to produce and deliver clear and concise oral and written presentations.
• Ability to work independently within a small team environment.
• Strong networking skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
• Must be comfortable communicating in English and French, written and spoken.
