Role description:

Arcadis is seeking an experienced Senior Water Engineer / Project Manager to lead and support municipal drinking water projects, with a particular focus on lead service line replacement programs and water distribution infrastructure. This role will oversee projects from planning and design through implementation and construction while serving as a trusted advisor to municipal clients.

As a key member of our Resilience Water team, you will combine technical expertise with strong project management and leadership skills to deliver high-quality solutions for our clients. You will lead multidisciplinary project teams, develop and mentor engineering staff, strengthen client relationships, and contribute to the continued growth of our municipal water practice. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced water professional who enjoys balancing technical delivery, project leadership, client engagement, and team development.

Role accountabilities:

You will be responsible for successful project delivery while supporting client development and growth objectives within the municipal water market.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead municipal drinking water and lead service line replacement programs from planning through design and construction, including service line inventories and investigations, replacement strategies, water main and distribution system improvements, design packages, bidding, and construction-phase services.
  • Manage projects from initiation through completion, with responsibility for scope, schedule, budget, quality, risk, staffing, and overall client satisfaction. Coordinate engineering studies, calculations, plans, specifications, cost estimates, permitting documents, bid packages, and construction deliverables.
  • Provide technical leadership and oversight for complex water infrastructure projects, guiding engineering teams in the development of practical, sustainable solutions that address municipal water distribution, rehabilitation, replacement, and capital improvement needs.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to municipal clients, developing strong relationships and helping clients evaluate infrastructure needs, establish priorities, assess alternatives, and successfully plan and execute capital programs. Coordinate with utilities, regulatory agencies, contractors, subconsultants, residents, and other key stakeholders throughout project delivery
  • Lead, mentor, and develop multidisciplinary project teams, providing technical guidance, workload and resource planning, coaching, and opportunities for junior and mid-level professionals to expand their technical expertise and project responsibilities.
  • Support clients in navigating drinking water requirements and program implementation, including regulatory considerations, funding opportunities, stakeholder coordination, and other considerations associated with lead service line replacement and municipal water infrastructure improvements.
  • Drive client and business development efforts by identifying opportunities, strengthening existing client relationships, supporting strategic pursuits, and contributing to proposals, interviews, scope and fee development, and other initiatives that support the continued growth of the municipal water practice.

Travel of up to 25% is anticipated for client meetings, project site visits, and other project-related activities.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, Chemical Engineering or a related field
  • 10 years of consulting experience supporting municipal water, drinking water, or water distribution projects
  • Professional Engineering license
