Req. ID:
JR102529 Machine Vision & AOI Sr/Engineer
Our vision is to transform how the world uses information to enrich life for all.
Micron Technology is a world leader in innovating memory and storage solutions that accelerate the transformation of information into intelligence, inspiring the world to learn, communicate and advance faster than ever.
Summary
As a Machine Vision & AOI Engineer based in Taiwan, you will design, develop, and deploy camera-based inspection systems for advanced packaging and manufacturing applications. This role focuses on machine vision architecture, camera and optical hardware selection, lighting design, image acquisition strategy, AOI algorithm development, and inspection system validation. You will work hands-on from proof-of-concept through factory deployment and sustainment to improve defect detection, process control, yield, and early risk identification. You will collaborate closely with process, equipment, automation, and quality teams to translate inspection needs into robust, scalable, and production-ready vision solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop automated optical inspection (AOI) solutions for manufacturing processes, including defect detection, classification, measurement, and traceability.
- Lead machine vision hardware selection and integration, including cameras, lenses, lighting, filters, frame grabbers, and related components to meet inspection and metrology requirements.
- Develop image acquisition strategies and optimize optical setups, field of view, depth of field, lighting geometry, and camera positioning for stable and repeatable inspection performance.
- Build and validate machine vision algorithms for inspection, measurement, alignment, OCR/OCV, pattern matching, and defect detection using OpenCV or similar vision libraries.
- Perform camera calibration, system characterization, GR&R, and inspection performance validation to ensure accuracy, repeatability, and readiness for production deployment.
- Troubleshoot vision systems in lab and factory environments, drive root-cause analysis for image quality and inspection escapes, and collaborate with equipment, process, and quality teams to improve system robustness and uptime.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics, or related discipline; or equivalent practical experience.
- Hands-on experience developing and deploying machine vision or automated optical inspection systems in an industrial environment, including integration, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in Python and familiarity with image processing or computer vision development tools such as OpenCV, along with solid software engineering practices.
- Strong analytical/problem-solving skills and clear communication in a cross-cultural environment.
- Willingness to work in lab/factory settings and follow safety, change-control, and operational procedures.
Preferred Skills
- Deep experience with machine vision hardware and camera systems, including industrial camera selection, lens calculation, lighting design, optical filtering, calibration, and integration with inspection equipment.
- Experience with AOI system design and optimization, including defect libraries, golden sample strategies, recipe tuning, false-call reduction, and inspection coverage improvement.
- Strong understanding of optics and imaging fundamentals such as resolution, distortion, contrast, depth of field, field of view, and illumination techniques for industrial inspection.
- Experience with measurement system analysis, inspection validation methods, SPC concepts, and data-driven improvement of detection performance in manufacturing environments.
- Familiarity with equipment integration, PLC or automation interfaces, trigger/control synchronization, and real-time image acquisition in factory environments.
- Experience supporting new tool bring-up, recipe qualification, and cross-functional debug activities for inspection systems used in semiconductor or electronics manufacturing is a plus.
Working Relationships
- Collaborate with equipment vendors, automation teams, and manufacturing operations to integrate camera-based inspection hardware safely and effectively into production tools and lines.
- Partner with process and integration teams to define inspection requirements, optimize detection strategies, and deploy robust AOI solutions that support process control and yield improvement.
- Work closely with metrology, inspection, and quality stakeholders to define defect criteria, validate system performance, and improve inspection effectiveness through continuous feedback.
- Coordinate with global stakeholders to align standards, share learnings, and help scale best practices across sites.
