Description
The Health Services Agency is seeking a compassionate, skilled, and leadership-driven Physical Therapist Supervisor to join our team. This is a working supervisor role dedicated to serving children with complex medical conditions through the California Children’s Services (CCS) Medical Therapy Program (MTP). They demonstrate expertise in evaluation, treatment planning, and evidence-based interventions while collaborating effectively with interdisciplinary teams, caregivers, and families. They carry out supervisory responsibilities and oversee the work of staff physical therapists. They must demonstrate strong organizational skills, adaptability, and an unwavering commitment to providing culturally responsive, family-centered care that supports improved functional outcomes.

Under medical direction, the physical therapist supervisor plans and provides therapy for physically disabled pediatric clients (ages 0–21) eligible for the California Children’s Services Medical Therapy Program. This classification requires specialized knowledge in pediatric care, physical therapy laws and regulations, and will work independently and on an interdisciplinary team with parents and other professionals.
Acting in a leadership capacity, the supervisor assigns, reviews, and directs the work of staff physical therapists. They are responsible for training staff, conducting performance evaluations, and ensuring task completion aligns with established policies. This lead role carries greater responsibility and judgment latitude, directly assisting the Chief Phys/Occupational Therapist. This position is subject to overtime, standby, and callback assignments, and performs related duties as required.

- Provide physical therapy/occupational therapy evaluations and appropriate treatments;
- Design treatment programs for patients including establishment of realistic, functional goals based on evaluation and appropriate precautions;
- Review clinical record, medical prescription and/or physician referral to develop treatment plans;
- Monitor patient's progress and work with a team to modify treatment plans;
- Maintain accurate clinical records and prepare written patient progress reports;
- Attend clinics, case conferences, staff meetings, and in-service training;
- Evaluate for and order adaptive and durable medical equipment and instruct patients and caregivers in its use;
- Provide therapy recommendations and consult with patient's caregivers;
- Participate in the IEP process and represent the Medical Therapy Program;
- Provide general direction and oversees the Therapy Aides, volunteers and student interns;
- Supervise, assign, review and coordinate the work of the other Therapists;
- Serve as an educational resource to other staff members; and
- Perform complex evaluations and tests;
- Provide direct supervision, training, mentorship, and performance evaluation for physical therapists;
- Support program operations, including workflow coordination, quality improvement efforts and regulatory compliance; and
- Coordinate staff training, professional development, and orientation for new hires or clinical interns.
- Organize and implement therapy treatment programs;
- Explain the techniques involved in a wide variety of therapy modalities and procedures;
- Interpret and adapt physician orders and/or written reports;
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing;
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with patients and others;
- Provide direction to subordinate personnel;
- Perform essential physical/mental requirements; and
- Prepare and maintain accurate case records and reports
- Principles, methods, materials and equipment used in physical or occupational therapy;
- Possible reactions of and hazards to patients during treatment, and precautionary and remedial measures;
- Anatomy, physiology, neuromuscular function and dysfunction, kinesiology, and neuromotor development;
- Pathology and injuries which result in physical impairment;
- Current trends and new developments in therapy techniques; and
- The growth and development of children.
- Current licensure with the Physical Therapy Board of California; AND
- Two (2) years progressively responsible physical therapy work experience. One (1) year must be at a supervisory level.
- Current licensure with the California Board of Occupational Therapy; AND
- Two (2) years progressively responsible occupational therapy work experience. One (1) year must be at a supervisory level.
- Current licensure with the Physical Therapy Board of California OR
- Current licensure with the California Board of Occupational Therapy; AND
- One (1) year full-time experience as a Physical/Occupational Therapist II at Stanislaus County.

EXAMINATION PROCESS
- Application Review and Screening. Applications are carefully screened based on information provided. Those who submit incomplete applications that lack relevant qualifications or do not submit all required documents will not be invited to move on.
- Written Examination. Applicants will be invited to participate in a written exam that tests knowledge for the position.
- Oral Examination. Applicants are invited to a panel interview in which they will be evaluated by County subject matter experts.
- Eligible Lists. Candidates who pass the examination will be placed on an eligible list for that classification. Eligible lists are effective for six months, but may be extended up to eighteen months.
CLASSIFICATION INFORMATION
Unless otherwise provided, this position is part of the Classified Service of the County and is assigned to the Community and Health bargaining unit for labor relations purposes.

Note: The eligible list generated from this recruitment may be used to fill future extra-help, part-time and full-time vacancies throughout Stanislaus County.
Incumbents may also be subject to overtime, standby, callback, weekend, holiday and shift assignments as identified in their MOU (Memorandum of Understanding).
