Project Buyer
Location: Detroit Area
Salary: $80,000-$85,000
About the Opportunity
Our client is seeking a Project Buyer to join our purchasing team and play a key role in supporting new and ongoing manufacturing projects. This position serves as the primary purchasing contact for project teams, managing sourcing activities, supplier relationships, negotiations, and purchasing targets from project launch through production ramp-up.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for assigned project Bills of Materials (BOMs) while meeting quality, cost, delivery, and performance targets
- Act as the primary Purchasing representative for project teams
- Lead RFQ and sourcing activities with approved suppliers, including prototypes, tooling, and equipment
- Support supplier selection, negotiations, contracts and business follow-up
- Ensure purchasing targets and project milestones are achieved
- Work closely with Commodity Lead Buyers to execute purchasing strategies aligned with corporate objectives
- Partner with production buyers to support SOP and production ramp-up
- Collaborate with engineering, quality and industrialization teams to ensure purchasing requirements and procedures are met
- Monitor project performance, identify deviations, and implement corrective action plans when required
- Maintain accurate reporting and provide regular project updates to management
- Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, suppliers and external partners
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree with 1-3+ years of purchasing experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment; significant manufacturing experience may also be considered
- Experience with RFQs, sourcing, supplier management, negotiations, and purchasing processes
- Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Understanding of cost analysis, finance, and cash management
- Strong communication, negotiation, and decision-making skills
- Results-oriented mindset with a focus on Quality, Cost, Delivery and Performance (QCDP)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and SAP
- Fluent English; additional languages are an asset
- Ability and willingness to travel internationally as required
- Self-motivated, collaborative, and comfortable working independently
