Job Description Summary
We are seeking a versatile and technically driven Lead Additive Manufacturing Engineer to own the maturation of AM processes and products from concept through to full production deployment. As a Lead Engineer, you will act as a technical authority, bridging the gap between design innovation and manufacturing reality. While Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) is our primary technology, you will have the opportunity to influence the application of diverse modalities (e.g., Binder Jetting, EBAM, DED) across complex gas turbine components. This is a high-visibility, hands-on role requiring a mix of deep technical troubleshooting and cross-functional leadership.Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Technical Ownership: Lead the execution of additive products and process improvements. Own the lifecycle from build file development and post-processing to part qualification and documentation.
- Production Maturation: Advance MRL levels and lead the transition of qualified additive technologies and products into the Gas Power supply chain.
- Collaborative Problem Solving: Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for additive hardware and processes. Partner with plant manufacturing, supply chain, and service teams to industrialize additive workflows.
- Strategic DfAM Leadership: Act as a subject matter expert in Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM), including topology optimization, lattice structures, and generative design. Mentor cross-functional teams to integrate these principles into product development.
- Process Excellence: Drive continuous improvement via Kaizen initiatives; contribute to the standardization of engineering processes to ensure safety, quality, and cost objectives are met.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline from an accredited university or related associates degree and 6 years of relevant experience.
- Minimum 3–5 years of progressive experience in manufacturing or design engineering.
- Demonstrated technical proficiency in Additive Manufacturing.
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally (<10%).
- U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder with the ability to work on export-controlled technology.
Desired Characteristics (What Makes You Stand Out)
- Advanced Expertise: Hands-on experience with LPBF, EBM, DED, or Binder Jetting. Master’s degree in Engineering is preferred.
- Industrialization Mindset: Proven track record of transitioning new products from a development environment into production, including managing qualification and validation efforts.
- Design/Simulation Fluency: Proficient in NX or equivalent 3D CAD/simulation tools; adept at interpreting mechanical models and drawings.
- Influence & Communication: Ability to translate complex additive data into clear actionable strategies for stakeholders in Engineering, Manufacturing, and Services.
- Innovation & Data-Driven Approach: Familiarity with Lean methodologies and process improvement. Experience leveraging data analytics, Python, or AI-driven tools to optimize build quality and reliability is a significant plus.
- Curiosity & Agility: Demonstrated success in troubleshooting complex manufacturing equipment and a proactive, "roll-up-your-sleeves" approach to production challenges.
This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
