Description
The TIG Welder performs precision GTAW/TIG welding, fabrication, fitting, and repair of carbon steel, stainless steel, nickel alloys, and other specialty metals. Responsibilities include producing high-quality welds while controlling heat, penetration, distortion, and weld appearance. The position requires the ability to read blueprints, weld symbols, WPS/weld data sheets, and operation travelers. May also perform MIG/GMAW, FCAW, tack welding, plasma cutting, and torch cutting as required. Must successfully complete Company-required welding qualification/testing, including 2G and 2F qualifications.
What You Will Do
- Perform GTAW/TIG welding and other welding processes, including GMAW/MIG, FCAW, and tack welding, in accordance with WPS, weld data sheets, blueprints, and work instructions.
- Select appropriate filler materials, electrodes, tooling, and welding parameters based on material type and job requirements.
- Set up parts using fixtures, weld benches, turntables, and other equipment to ensure proper fit-up and alignment.
- Prepare weld joints by cleaning and removing oil, dirt, rust, burrs, and other contaminants.
- Perform fillet, groove, butt, and full-penetration welds on carbon steel, stainless steel, nickel alloys, and other specialty metals.
- Control heat input, penetration, weld profile, and distortion to produce high-quality welds free from cracks, porosity, burn-through, and other defects.
- Inspect completed welds and verify dimensions using measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, squares, and measuring tapes.
- Grind, clean, blend, and repair welds as necessary to meet blueprint and quality requirements.
- Perform plasma cutting, torch cutting, and weld repair operations as required.
- Safely operate cranes, hoists, carts, dollies, and forklifts to move materials and completed parts.
- Maintain welding equipment, tooling, fixtures, and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
- Follow all established operating procedures, quality standards, and safety requirements, and report or assist in correcting workplace hazards.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Team Leader or Supervisor.
What You Will Have
- Experience performing TIG/GTAW welding on stainless steel, nickel alloys, and other specialty metals.
- Experience with full-penetration groove welds and multi-pass TIG welding.
- Experience with back-purging and controlled shielding of stainless steel and alloy welds.
- Experience working from formal Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS).
- AWS, ASME, military, aerospace, pressure vessel, or other applicable welding certifications/qualifications are preferred where relevant to Company products.
- Experience working in a quality-controlled manufacturing environment with documented weld procedures and inspection requirements.
