Domestic Gas Engineer & Trainee Commercial Gas Engineer

Probation – 3 monthsReporting to – Gas ManagerDepartment – Mechanical Maintenance Department Job location – Various Sites SCOPECarry out domestic gas servicing, repairs, and installations, alongside mechanical servicing tasks (pumps, valves, pipework). Assist senior engineers on commercial gas systems as part of your training pathway.Undertake planned preventative maintenance, reactive callouts, and minor works on associated equipment. Maintain accurate records of all work completed (manual and electronic). Participate in an out-of-hours emergency call-out rota and remain flexible outside core hours.Build effective working relationships with colleagues, clients, and customers. Ensure clear communication with customers, line management, and office support staff.KNOWLEDGEMinimum qualifications for this role are:Must have completed a recognised apprenticeship in Gas/Engineering Services (mechanical). e.g. NVQ level-3 certifications(E)Must hold a current:CCN1CENWATHTR1CKR1            CRITERIA:Essential:Recognised apprenticeship in Gas/Engineering Services (Mechanical) – e.g., NVQ Level 3.Current Domestic Gas Qualifications: CCN1, CENWAT, HTR1, CKR1.Full UK driving licence.Sound knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and safe systems of work.Ability to interpret drawings, instructions, and specifications.Good communication skills and IT literacy (MS Office, Outlook). Desirable:Experience in mechanical services, plumbing, and heating maintenance.Exposure to commercial heating systems.Willingness to undertake Commercial Gas Training (COCN1, ICPN1, etc.).Enhanced DBS (can be arranged).SKILLSPractical experience in domestic gas maintenance and mechanical servicing. Professional image and customer-focused approach. Problem-solving ability and decision-making within defined parameters. Ability to establish strong internal and external relationships.OTHERThe ability to travel to a range of sites.Appreciation that there might be out of hours working, agreed in advance.DUTIESDomestic gas servicing, breakdown response, and installations.Mechanical servicing (pumps, valves, pipework).Assist with commercial plant maintenance under supervision.Diagnose faults and carry out repairs.Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with health and safety legislation.Manage van stock and obtain specialist components when required.Participate in on-call rota.Progress through structured training to achieve Commercial Gas Engineer status. To develop an extensive knowledge of mechanical, electrical building services and a good understanding of their interfaces with general building works associated with them.To gain knowledge of the EWC employee’s handbook, EWC policies and processes and EWC ISO system of works.
