POSITION TITLE: Marina General Manager

The mission of the Lorain Port and Finance Authority is to promote waterborne commerce, to provide economic development opportunities within the City of Lorain, and to enhance public access to our waterways.
POSITION OBJECTIVE: Under the general direction of the Executive Director, the Marina General Manager is responsible for the overall management and operation of Lakeside Marina. This includes overseeing daily operations, supervising staff, ensuring regulatory and lease compliance, leading capital improvement projects, and managing the marina's budget and financial performance. The Marina General Manager builds and maintains strong relationships with slipholders, vendors, and Port leadership, and works to ensure the marina runs efficiently, safely, and profitably.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Oversee day-to-day marina operations, including slip docking, fueling, maintenance, and housekeeping, to ensure safe and smooth operations.
• Supervise, coordinate, hire, train, and evaluate marina staff; prepare staff schedules in a manner that minimizes overtime.
• Oversee grounds, docks, fuel dock, equipment, and building maintenance to ensure the property is well maintained and exceeds slipholder and visitor expectations; maintain adequate inventory of supplies needed to uphold property standards.
• Coordinate seasonal preparation and winterization of docks, the fuel dock, and marina buildings.
• Partner closely with Port leadership to develop and deliver the marina's budget, operating objectives, and overall progress.
• Manage marina operations and expenses within the approved budget; complete bi-weekly payroll submission and daily sales reconciliation and deposits.
• Oversee and direct boat slip rentals; facilitate annual boat registration and renewal of docks and racks; reconcile dock and rack assignments to verify proper usage.
• Negotiate vendor contracts and procure necessary supplies and services; build and maintain positive, long-term vendor relationships. Conduct regular inspections of docks, facilities, and equipment to identify and address maintenance and safety issues early.
• Lead safety and emergency preparedness planning; oversee and monitor the safety of staff, slipholders, and visitors.
• Address slipholder, tenant, and guest concerns and inquiries, and resolve conflicts professionally and promptly.
• Create and maintain documentation of marina processes and procedures.
• Attend training and continuing education programs as appropriate.
• Perform related work as required or assigned.

• Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet designated deadlines.
• Ability to actively listen, speak, and write effectively to communicate with slipholders, staff, vendors, and Port leadership.
• Ability to count money and calculate figures accurately, including discounts and sales tax.
• Ability to apply critical thinking, logic, and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions and approaches to operational problems.
• Ability to instruct and train others in marina-centric tasks and procedures.
• Proficiency with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and willingness to learn additional programs.
• Strong customer service skills and the ability to foster positive, professional relationships with slipholders, staff, and vendors.
• Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple, sometimes competing, deadlines.
• Ability to attend meetings outside of normal business hours and to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, as needed.
• Enthusiasm, resourcefulness, initiative, tact, courtesy, and good judgment.
• Must be able to maintain the highest level of confidentiality regarding sensitive marina and Port matters.
• Requires a valid Ohio driver's license.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directly supervises marina staff. Performs supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Port Authority's policies and applicable laws, including training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing and resolving complaints.
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE PREFERRED:
• At least two to three years of related marina, hospitality, or facility management experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Knowledge of marina operations, dock and slip management, and applicable USACE and State of Ohio submerged land lease requirements a plus.
• Boat operation certifications/licenses a plus.
• Experience working with governmental agencies, specifically port authorities, a plus.
