About this Role
Power Engineering Services, a Quanta Services Company, is looking for Electrical Testing Technicians (NETA 3) to join our growing teams across our Houston, Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio, TX markets.
As an Electrical Testing Technician at Power Engineering Services, you will independently perform and direct acceptance and maintenance testing on electrical power systems and equipment. You will serve as the technician in charge on routine and moderately complex jobs, evaluate test data, produce final field reports, and take responsibility for the safety of the technicians working alongside you. This role is the bridge between assisting on a crew and leading one - the proving ground for future Sr. Electrical Testing Technicians.
What You'll Do
- Independently perform acceptance, maintenance, and commissioning testing on switchgear, transformers, protective relays, circuit breakers, cabling, grounding systems, and associated protection and control equipment.
- Serve as the technician in charge on routine and moderately complex jobs, directing the work of Level 1 and Level 2 technicians on site.
- Evaluate test data against manufacturer specifications, ANSI/NETA acceptance and maintenance testing specifications, and prior test history; identify deficiencies and recommend corrective action.
- Author complete field test reports and deliver findings and recommendations to the customer and to the Sr. Electrical Testing Technician or project engineer.
- Own job-site safety for yourself and others — including energized work permits, lockout/tagout, arc flash and shock hazard boundaries, and NFPA 70E compliance.
- Program, configure, and test protective relays and perform functional trip testing of protection and control schemes.
- Troubleshoot power system failures and abnormal test results, escalating to engineering only when the finding exceeds field scope.
- Mentor Assistant Testing Technicians (NETA 2) and apprentices, verifying their work and signing off on documented experience where applicable.
- Manage test equipment calibration, job-site material readiness, and daily job documentation and record keeping.
- Interface directly with customers on scope, schedule, findings, and change conditions, keeping the Sr. Electrical Testing Technician informed.
What You'll Bring
- NETA Level 3 Certification, or NETA Level 2 with documented eligibility to sit for the Level 3 exam within 6 months of hire.
- Minimum of 5 years of full-time experience in the electrical testing industry, consistent with ANSI/NETA ETT Level 3 experience requirements.
- Associate degree, technical/trade school certificate, or military electrical training (preferred); Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is a plus.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of electrical codes and standards, including NEC, NFPA 70E, NESC, and applicable IEEE and ANSI standards, and of the ANSI/NETA ATS and MTS testing specifications.
- Proven ability to evaluate test data and make pass/fail and corrective-action recommendations without direct supervision.
- Hands-on proficiency with relay test sets, power factor and insulation resistance test sets, primary and secondary injection, circuit breaker timing, and transformer turns ratio testing.
- Ability to read and interpret one-line diagrams, three-line and schematic drawings, relay logic, wiring diagrams, and equipment submittals.
- Experience directing or mentoring junior technicians on a job site.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record; ability to pass a background check, drug screen, and customer site-access requirements.
- Ability to lift and carry test equipment up to 50 lbs and to work outdoors in varying job-site conditions.
- Willingness to travel to job sites and to work off-hours, nights, weekends, and scheduled outages as project needs require. Travel may include assignments outside your home area, including out-of-state travel and overnight stays.
- Strong work ethic and enthusiasm for tackling new challenges with a commitment to finding optimal solutions.
What You'll Get

- 401(k) with immediate matching and vesting
- Fully comprehensive benefits packages; Medical, Dental, Vision
