Position Summary
Senior Manager II, Manufacturing Operations, Cell Therapy is head of ERT and a member of the Manufacturing Leadership Team and accountable for leading E2E full-shift manufacturing performance. This role is a people leader of people leaders/individuals and provides leadership across multiple manufacturing teams and unit operations to ensure safe, compliant, right-first-time execution of the cell therapy manufacturing process.
The Manufacturing Leadership Team is working together to ensure safe, compliant, reliable, and high-performing manufacturing operations. The Senior Manager II combines direct operational accountability for shift performance with broader leadership responsibilities across quality, safety, training, people development, continuous improvement, schedule adherence, and issue escalation.
Duties/Responsibilities
Manufacturing Leadership Team Accountability
- Contributes to Manufacturing strategy, priorities, site performance goals, and leadership routines as a member of the Manufacturing Leadership Team.
- Represents shift performance, risks, resource needs, improvement opportunities, and escalation topics in Manufacturing Leadership Team forums.
- Partners with Associate Directors and peer Senior Manager’s to align standards, priorities, escalation practices, and performance expectations across Manufacturing.
- Ensures consistent execution of manufacturing standards across shifts and manufacturing teams while enabling timely resolution of cross-shift and cross-functional issues.
Values and Leadership
- Leads by example and drives leaders and teams to adhere to BMS values.
- Creates an engaging, accountable, inclusive, and learning culture across the shift.
- Coaches and develop people leaders and/or individual contributors to build leadership capability, strengthen decision making, and improve team performance.
Quality
- Accountable for compliant execution of manufacturing shift operations within master production schedule, scope, quality, and budget.
- Maintains an audit-ready manufacturing environment and supports inspection readiness activities.
- Driving right-first-time performance, reduces deviations, eliminates repeat causes, and ensures meaningful CAPA and change control implementation.
- Represents shift operations in manufacturing tier meetings, quality forums, and review boards as required.
Safety
- Fosters an effective safety culture across the shift and ensures compliance with EOHSS standards and site safety expectations.
- Ensures manufacturing leaders identify, assess, escalate, and mitigate safety and compliance risks.
- Participates in safety Gemba walks, emergency response activities, event triage, and operational risk reviews as required.
Shift Performance
- Accountable for the overall performance of an entire manufacturing shift, including safety, quality, delivery, cost, people, compliance, and schedule adherence.
- Serves as the shift escalation point for major operational issues, staffing constraints, technical challenges, and manufacturing events.
- Ensures clear prioritization, communication, and handover between shifts and across support functions.
- Uses KPIs, tier processes, and metric control plans to monitor performance, identify trends, and drive timely corrective actions.
Continuous Improvement and Operational Excellence
- Identifies and implements improvements that contribute to site and department goals while maintaining validated and compliant processes.
- Deploys lean principles to improve shift efficiency, reduce waste, remove roadblocks, and strengthen operational discipline.
- Leads or participates in complex operational projects, process improvements, and cross-functional initiatives.
Training and People Development
- Accountable for shift training compliance and readiness, including ensuring leaders understand and act on training gaps.
- Accountable for onboarding, qualification, and technical capability building for manufacturing staff.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant manufacturing, bioprocessing, protein biologics, or cell therapy manufacturing experience.
- Minimum of 6 to 8 years of leadership experience, including experience leading people leaders or managing multiple teams.
- Experience leading manufacturing operations in a dynamic, regulated, high-throughput environment is highly preferred.
