How you’ll make a difference: 

The Project Delivery Office (PDO) within Business Technology Services is seeking a Delivery Manager to connect business strategy to execution across programs, and business and technology initiatives. Reporting to the Team Lead, Project Delivery Office, you will partner with various business areas to support the planning, delivery, and governance of their project portfolios.

 

Working closely with Directors and senior business and technology leaders, you will develop a strong understanding of the business areas’ vision and help turn that into a practical roadmap of initiatives and investments. This role looks beyond individual projects to how work collectively delivers longer-term business outcomes: what is worth investing in, what it will take, and how it should be sequenced within available capacity.

 

Once work is underway, you keep that strategic alignment throughout delivery. Working collaboratively with Project Managers, Business Analysts, technology teams and business leaders, you give leaders a clear view of progress, risks and capacity, and when priorities shift, you lay out the options and trade-offs needed to keep the program moving forward.

 

Your responsibilities:

• Partner with Directors and senior leaders to translate business and program strategies into actionable roadmaps and delivery priorities.
• Help shape and assess proposed investments, including their expected outcomes, business value, dependencies and resource needs.
• Support Business Systems Planning (BSP) ensuring business priorities, technology needs and cost forecasts are represented, and leaders have the required information needed to make investment, prioritization and sequencing decisions.
• Work with Project Managers, Business Analysts, Team Leads and technology teams to build realistic delivery and resource plans and identify capacity constraints early.
• Guide initiatives through WCB’s governance and delivery processes, including planning, approvals, reporting, change control and escalation.
• Oversee the financial health of programs and initiatives, tracking spending against approved budgets, forecasting costs and resource needs, and flagging variances early so leaders can act.
• Maintain oversight of program and initiative delivery performance, ensuring risks, issues, and changes to scope, timelines, budgets, or resource demands are effectively managed. Escalate impacts and facilitate informed decision-making by presenting options and trade-offs across the broader portfolio.
• Resolve complex cross-functional issues and remove barriers that extend beyond a single project, bringing the right business and technology stakeholders together to reach practical decisions.
• Provide clear, concise reporting to Directors and senior management on program health, financial position, key decisions, risks, dependencies and areas needing attention.
• Build trusted relationships across Business Technology Services and client areas, and contribute to improving PDO governance, resource planning and delivery practices.

 

Your experience and skills:

• 7+ years of progressive experience leading, coordinating, or enabling the delivery of complex business and technology initiatives in a large organizational environment, including demonstrated leadership experience in project or program delivery.
• A track record of working with senior leaders to turn strategic objectives into executable plans, balancing the big picture with what it takes to deliver.
• Experience shaping initiatives and investments by defining desired outcomes, business value and resource requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent initiatives and understand the combined impact of resource demand, dependencies, timelines and competing priorities.
• Experience managing budgets and forecasts for multi-million-dollar programs or portfolios, including variance tracking and reporting to senior leaders.
• Strong judgment and analytical skills, with the ability to work through ambiguity and clearly communicate options and trade-offs.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presenting complex delivery information to technical teams, business stakeholders and senior management.
• Strong facilitation, negotiation, conflict management and relationship-building skills.
• Working knowledge of governance, resource planning, risk management and change control across both traditional and Agile delivery approaches.
• A degree or diploma in business, technology, project management or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Business Analyst experience and a PMP, PgMP or similar designation are considered assets.

Salary:  $100,683.00 to $132,850.00 per annum (Salary Grade 13 including market supplement)

 

Successful candidate must reside in Alberta and be able to work in person from our Edmonton downtown office as required. Final candidates are required to undergo a security clearance as a condition of employment.
