Survey Technician

The Survey Technician assists with field surveying tasks to support construction layout, site preparation, grading, and project planning. This fully onsite role involves operating surveying instruments, collecting measurements, documenting field data, and supporting accurate project execution. The technician works closely with project supervisors, foremen, and engineering staff to ensure the quality and precision of all field measurements.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform field surveys for construction layout, boundaries, utilities, elevations, and site features.Set up, operate, and maintain surveying instruments such as total stations, GPS units, rods, and levels.Collect and record precise field data, measurements, and notes for project documentation.Assist in establishing control points, benchmarks, and site reference systems.Interpret survey plans, maps, and construction drawings to perform accurate layout.Communicate measurement results, discrepancies, or site conditions to supervisors and project teams.Support grading verification, cut-fill calculations, and alignment checks on active job sites.Ensure instruments are calibrated and properly maintained.Work with construction crews to ensure layout stakes and markings remain visible and accurate.Follow all company safety procedures and maintain awareness of site hazards.Assist with resolving layout or measurement issues as they arise in the field.Maintain organized survey files, reports, and project logs.QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED required; additional training in surveying, civil engineering, or construction is preferred.1–3 years of experience in surveying, construction layout, or a related field.Familiarity with surveying instruments such as total stations, GPS, and digital levels.Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, site plans, and survey maps.Strong math, measurement, and analytical skills.Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and navigate active job sites.Physical capability to lift equipment, walk long distances, and work on uneven terrain.Strong communication and teamwork skills.Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation between job sites.Experience with survey software or data collectors is a plus.Work Environment & ConditionsFully onsite field role requiring travel between active job sites.Outdoor work with exposure to weather, noise, and construction activity.Must wear PPE and adhere to all safety guidelines.May require early start times, extended hours, or occasional weekend work depending on project demands.Why Work at Outlast LLC?Contribute to high-impact construction projects where accurate surveying is essential.Gain valuable field experience with opportunities for advancement into Survey Crew Chief or engineering roles.Work in a collaborative environment that values accuracy, craftsmanship, and safety.Join a growing company with long-term career potential.
