Public Works Operations Specialist - Street

POSITION TYPE: Full Time, Non-exempt hourly

JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for operating heavy equipment and performing street maintenance and repair duties in support of department operations. 

MAJOR DUTIES:

• Operates heavy equipment and vehicles use in the repair and maintenance of city streets.
• Transports equipment and tools to and from work sites.
• Maintains and repairs equipment and tools and streets.
• Assists concrete crew as needed; builds forms, removes, replaces and finishes concrete according to construction standards.
• Assists with seasonal snow, ice, and leaf removal.
• Assists in excavating materials from job sites.
• Repairs concrete and asphalt streets as required.
• Responds to emergency call out situations as required.
• Assists with traffic control duties.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:

• Knowledge of front-end loaders, backhoes, dump trucks, and other types of heavy and light equipment used in the repair and maintenance of streets.
• Knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials, and procedures used in the maintenance and repair of streets.
• Skill in the operation of backhoes, dump trucks, and other related heavy and light equipment used in the repair and maintenance of streets.
• Skill in the operation of street maintenance tools and equipment.
• Skill in the use of chainsaws, weed eaters, and other power tools.
• Skill in oral and written communication.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School graduation or equivalency and two (2) years experience and a demonstrated proficiency in various types of construction activities.
• Must comply with Missouri CDL requirements and possess and maintain a valid Class “B” or better CDL with air brake endorsement. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Preference will be given to candidates that have experience and a demonstrated proficiency in heavy equipment operations on construction site.

Salary per hour $20.10, plus a generous benefit package.

• Bi-weekly pay periods.
• Thirteen paid holidays per year.
• 96 hours of vacation – accrued throughout the year.
• 96 hours of sick leave – accrued throughout the year.
• 2 days of personal leave per fiscal year. Must be employed on July 1 of the fiscal year to receive.

• Total compensation value (Hourly starting rate plus benefits value) for this position is $29.14 hourly.
