POSITION OVERVIEW

Under the direction of the Chief of Police, is responsible for revising and updating General Orders, policies and procedures. Performs highly responsible complex and specialized work in planning, coordinating and managing the implementation, maintenance and adherence to professional standards for the Warrenton Police Department through the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission (VLEPSC). Work is performed with considerable independence and is evaluated through conferences, reports and results obtained. Performs other work as requested.

The Accreditation Manager duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Accreditation Program Administration. Administers and coordinates the Department's law enforcement accreditation program to ensure ongoing compliance with the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional standards Commission (VLEPSC) and other applicable accreditation standards. Maintains a standardized   format and schedule for the review, revision, and publication of departmental policies. Compiles, maintains, and organizes all accreditation files, proofs of compliance, and supporting documentation.  Develops, maintains, and updates the Department's multi-year accreditation and strategic compliance plan. Prepares annual reports, self-assessments, and other documentation required to demonstrate continued accreditation  compliance. 
  • Policy Development and Compliance. Develops, reviews, and revises departmental policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws, local ordinances, and accreditation standards.  Coordinates policy review with Department command staff, legal counsel, and other stakeholders to ensure legal sufficiency and operational effectiveness. Monitors changes to accreditation standards, legislation, and best practices and recommends policy updates as necessary. 
  • Accreditation Assessments and Audits. Coordinates annual compliance reviews, file  audits, site visits, and four-year accreditation assessments required by VLEPSC and other accrediting organizations. Oversees the collection, organization, and submission of accreditation documentation and evidence.  Serves as the primary point of contact during accreditation assessments and compliance reviews. 
  • Training and Organizational Support. Develops and delivers training on new and revised departmental policies, accreditation standards, and professional practices. Conducts orientation and ongoing education for employees regarding accreditation requirements, policy compliance, and professional standards. Provides guidance and technical assistance to Department personnel regarding accreditation-related processes and documentation. 
  • Collaboration and Representation. Serves as the Department's liaison with accreditation organizations, regulatory agencies, law enforcement partners, and other external stakeholders. Represents the Department at accreditation meetings, professional associations, training sessions, and conferences. Attends required accreditation meetings, continuing education programs, and professional development opportunities to maintain program effectiveness.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Salary Grade - 9 

Education - Any combination of education and experience equivalent that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  An associate degree from an accredited college or university is preferred.

Experience - Advanced knowledge of law enforcement procedures, practices, and guidelines with an emphasis in accreditation and policy creation.

  

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURES

  • Valid Virginia (VA) Driver’s License - Must have upon hire. If relocating to VA, a valid VA drivers' license is required to be obtained within one (1) year from the date of hire.
  • Accreditation Managers Certification - Must have or being able to maintain and obtain within one (1) year from date of hire.
  • Department Specified Training - Must meet and maintain all department training and education requirements for position as defined by the Training Coordinator within one (1) year from date of hire.

  • Knowledge and understanding of VLEPSC standards and the acc reaccreditation process required.
  • Knowledge of modern law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment.
  • Excellent writing skills with the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other
  • Town personnel and members of the public.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions.
  • Ability to follow and give verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to act as a lobbyist in accreditation matters before various VLEPSC Virginia Law Enforcement Accreditation Coalition (VALEAC) committees.
  • Excellent word processing, typing and filing skills necessary.
  • Ability to use proper spelling, punctuation, grammar, arithmetic, statistical analysis and business English required. 
  • Ability to learn and apply technical terminology and information specifically related to Police work. 
  • Ability to effectively and discreetly handle confidential information.

EQUIPMENT & TOOLS. The following equipment/tools are commonly associated with the efficiency of the employees’ performance of the function of this job. 

  • Town-wide computer including word processing software, printer, telephone/cellphone, copy machine, fax machine, and other associated office equipment.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES. The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform essential functions of the job. 

  • Work requires the ability to sit, stand, walk for extended periods of time.
  • Work requires the ability to complete repetitive wrist, hand, and/or fine motor movement.
  • Work requires the ability to grasp, pull, push, and reach.
  • Work requires the ability to climb and balance.
  • Work requires the ability to talk, hear, listen, and comprehend.
  • Work requires the ability to drive and/or operate mechanical equipment.
  • Work requires visual acuity of 20 feet or more, visual acuity of 20 inches or less, three-dimensional vision, precise hand/eye coordination, the ability to identify and distinguish colors., the ability to identify and     distinguish colors.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Work requires the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl.

WORK ENVIRONMENT. The following are possible atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job. 

  • May occasionally be exposed to uncomfortable temperatures, humidity, noise, chemicals or gasses, contagious diseases, airborne particles or pathogens, and/or physical trauma.
  • May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
  • May be exposed to biohazards or bloodborne pathogens.
  • Work may potentially involve risk of exposure to electric shock.
