It’s why we have a world-renowned newsroom that sends journalists to report on the ground from nearly 160 countries. It’s why we focus deeply on how our readers will experience our journalism, from print to audio to a world-class digital and app destination. And it’s why our business strategy centers on making journalism so good that it’s worth paying for.

NYT Advertising / Marketing Design is looking for a mid-level Designer for a 3–6 month temporary assignment. You will provide reliable, high-volume design support across the broader marketing and advertising organization, helping the team deliver a range of work while maintaining a high standard of quality.

You will work with the Design Director and Senior Designer, taking on a variety of projects across social channels, newsletters, presentations, and small event assets. This is a hands-on role for a thoughtful, organized designer who can move efficiently between assignments, respond to feedback, and contribute strong design execution from brief through delivery.

This is a 3-6 month temporary, part-time position (20-25 hours per week based on evolving business needs). This role can be remote (working EST hours) or hybrid based in our New York City headquarters.

Responsibilities:

  • Follow and work within the New York Times Advertising branding, following typography, color and layout guidelines.
  • Design assets for social channels, newsletters, presentations, and events.
  • Support the Senior Designer and Design Director across a variety of concurrent projects.
  • Translate briefs, messaging, and stakeholder feedback into clear, visual work.
  • Manage multiple projects and shifting priorities
  • Collaborate with partners across the marketing and advertising organization.
  • Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.
  • You will report to the Design Director.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 3–5 years of professional design experience in an agency, in-house, media, marketing environment.
  • Experience working across social, event, and presentation design.
  • Strong proficiency in Figma and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Show a refined use of typography and design layout.
  • Experience designing for multiple formats and channels, including presentations and digital communications.
  • Working knowledge of basic motion design.
  • A digital portfolio demonstrating design craft and finished work.
  • Experience using Google Suite and Keynote

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting marketing, advertising, media, or brand teams.
  • Ability to quickly understand a brief, identify priorities, and work independently with appropriate direction.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, particularly with non-design partners.
  • Comfort working in a high-volume environment with changing priorities and short timelines.
